1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. With a quorum present,
the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was called to order on Tuesday, April 09, 2024 @ 6:00 p.m. David Scott, Kevin Bishop, and Thomas Marty submitted excused
absence requests. Anthony Branch was an unexcused absence.
2. Hear visitors. Joe Hegwood and Karin Plotts, members of Brazos Valley Pickleball
Association spoke about the Petition to convert tennis courts at Brian Bachmann Park to pickleball courts.
3. Informational Items
3.1 Presentation and discussion by the Director of Parks and Recreation on
matters pertaining to the Board. No update given.
3.2 Presentation and discussion on College Station Parks Foundation Update.
David White is excited to announce that the Foundation will be hosting its first event
November 2nd in partnership with Texas Forestry Service, they will be planting 100
trees within the City of College Station. They are having a planning meeting on
April 10th.
3.3 Presentation and discussion on Fun For All donor wall project update. This
was tabled for another meeting.
3.4 Presentation and discussion on tourism update. Gene Ballew stated that there
are 30 events scheduled for the summer, with a majority of those happening in May
– July which include State 7V7, and a national softball tournament. There is also
Junior Olympic Track/Field happening on Campus.
4. Regular Agenda
4.1 Presentation, discussion, and possible action on the approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Upon a motion made by David White and a second
by Amy Arredondo, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted five (5) for and
none (0) opposed to approve the minutes as written. The motion passed
unanimously.
4.2 Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding dedication of
Parkland for Midtown Reserve Expansion II, generally located southeast of
the intersection of Rock Prairie Road and Calaveras Court. Case REZ2023-000076.
Upon a motion by Don Hellriegel and a second by John Polasek, the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to show support
of the dedication of Parkland for Midtown Reserve Expansion II. The motion passed
unanimously.
5. Discussion and possible action on future agenda items. Update on
Comprehensive plan. 6. Items of Community Interest. None
7. Adjourn. Upon a motion made by John Polasek and a second by David White, the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to
adjourn the meeting 7:07 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
