if you will. (BH)1777THC June 14, 1777 – During the American Revolution, the Continental Congress adopted a resolution stating that “the flag of the United States be thirteen alternate
stripes red and white” and that “the Union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.” The national flag, which became known as the “Stars and Stripes,”
was based on the “Grand Union” flag, a banner carried by the Continental Army in 1776 that also consisted of thirteen red and white stripes. The legend that Betty Ross, a Philadelphia

began a hard-fought engagement against the British man-of-war Serapis. After inflicting considerable damage to the American vessel, Captain Pearson asked Jones if he wanted to surrender.
From his disabled ship, U.S. Commodore John Paul Jones replied, "I have not yet begun to fight," and after three more hours of furious fighting, Pearson surrendered to him. d(BH)First

with "a high misdemeanor, entirely inconsistent with his public duty and trust as a Senator." (BH) (2) Built in Boston to defend the young American nation, USS CONSTITUTION is nearly
as old as the document for which George Washington and Congress named her. Both the document and the ship have proven to be resilient symbols of America's strength, courage, and liberty.

1811Civil Code introduced in Austria (JC)THC 12/16 1811 -At the Mississippi River Valley near New Madrid, Missouri, the greatest series of earthquakes in U.S. history begins when a quake
of an estimated 8.6 magnitude on the Richter scale rocks the region. The earthquake raised and lowered parts of the Mississippi Valley by as much as fifteen feet, changed the course
