HomeMy WebLinkAboutBill Braddy '67~. Bill Braddy `67 I served at Hood in the cavalry, went to flight school and was a turnaround to Cobra Gun School. ALL Cobra pilots were heading to VN. Days prior to departure in 74, our orders to VN were cancelled as the war wound down. The picture is Alaska. About as far as you can get from Viet Nam. I have a lot of skill at just missing the wars. Good thing I guess. I did get to help form a Special tJperations unit to recover the hostages from Tehran. We were set to go on but Reagan's inauguration caused the release. Thank God we never had to do the unthinkable. Desert Storm came during my second tour in GE. My daughters were confirmed in Martin Luther's church in was commanding an air cavalry squadron in Fulda on the East German border. In August of 89, we had a shooting incident with the Grens auf Klaren (GAK} or east German border patrol. In Nov, we were cutting holes in the fence. Lots of funny stories about that. The east German cars were made of masonite and had 2 cycle engines; our auto mechanics couldn't do much on them but our generator mechanics could fix them. End of my time was second tour with the 101st at Fort Campbell, Brigade Commander and Division Chief of Staff. Then I had to start over and learn to earn a living as a civilian. Talk about PTSS .... more for the poor people who had to put up with me while I learned to say please and thank you. :-) am really looking forward to this. See you in a couple of months. B2 "'~ '~
