HomeMy WebLinkAboutWally Williams '67Wally Williams '67 I was in the Army from September 1969 to August 1971. Got drafted {remember that?} and sent to Japan where I worked on Air Force bases near Tokyo {Tachikawa and Yakota). We had a kind of M.A.S.H unit. Our job was to transport recently wounded Viet Nam soldiers to various hospitals throughout Japan. {Army to Ft. Zama, Air Force to Tachikawa and Yokota, Marines and Navy to Yokohama.) Mlle put them on helicopters when the weather was clear and transported them by bus when it was overcast {which was a lot of the time). Ourjob was to keep them comfortable, breathing well and as pain free as possible. There were a lot of burn victims and amputees. And almost everybody had a tracheotomy because thaYs about all they taught us how to do. The rest was on the job training. I went in as a PFC and came out a PFC. {I was a good medic, but a bad soldier.} No awards. Lots of citations {AWOL, etc). As much as I disliked it, itwas a good thing for me because the GI bill got me thorough college. I'm looking for a picture.
