HomeMy WebLinkAboutMadisonville Depot Area MEETING THE TRAIN IN ~ ~ .~'~ 3 W 2+~ ? ~'~ ~- ~ . Melba Frossard DID YOU KNOW THAT MADISONVILLE ONCE HAD A RAILROAD? This is the depot of the I.&G.N.R.R. (International Great Northern Railroad). The depot was built as close to the square as they could get it. They started running on. train a day into town, a combination freight and passenger train. Later, IGN switched to a daily freight and a daily passenger run. At train time, around 1:00 or 1:30 in the afternoon, everyone went to the depot to see the train come in, mostly the freight. A commercial track was built around town and freight was unloaded near Commerce Street on the east side of the square. Some of those pictured here are Kit McAfee, Will Allphin and Henry Womble.
