CS stars topple Madisonville MADISONVILLE - Eric Peterson tossed a one-hitter while fanning 10 and teammate Li-Wei Yu smashed four-hits to lead College Station past Madisonville 7-1 in Little League District 9 action Monday night. The victory advances ` College Station into a Saturday night. confron- tation with the winner of [ the Bryan West-Marlin I game. College Station built up a 5-0 lead after three innings before Madison- ville scored its only run of the game. They also garnered their only hit in the game off the bat of Brian Hunter. Yu, who collected half of College Station's hits, had three singles and a ground rule double. Mark Kuder also had two hits, including a two-run homer iri the se- cond inning. Jeremey Townsend and Curtis Kaiser also had singles. An outstanding defen- sive play was made by Quinn Stallings in right field in the fourth inn- ing. LP -Bobby N'halev and Eric Turner. page 2B The Bryan-College Station Eagle Mon SPORTS SCENE CS tops West Eric Peterson blasted a grand slam home run and Quinn Stallings hit a solo homer as the College Sta- tion All-Stars out-slugged Bryan West, 8-4, Satur- day night in Little League playoffs. College Station will now meet another undefeated team, Bryan North, Thursday at Bob Bond Park at 7:30 p.m. West drops to the losers' bracket and faces tonight's Hearne-Bryan East winner Wednesday night. Mark Kuder went 2-for-4 for College Station. Jeremy Townsend was the winning pitcher, giv- ing up five hits while striking out 13. Gabriel Garcia hit a solo home run for West while Tommy Joe Stratta went 1-for-1. . Daniel Alvarado, Ricky Tubbs and Robert Adams were the three West pitchers. SPO PRESS names All-Tourney By Greg Huchingson Five players off of the District 9 South Zone cham- pion, College Station, dominated The PRESS' 1981 Little League All- Tournament team. College Station defeated Little League North for the South Zone crown, before falling to a Waco opponent in the District 9 title bout. Regan Ljungdahl, Eric Peterson, Quint Stallings, Jeremy Townsend, and Li- Wei Yu were the five players from C.S. named to the an- nual squad. Runner-up North also placed five players on the crew. Mike Foster, Mark Fuller, Ruffin Moore, Lee Denena, and Bob Holliday were the Northerners selected. The hard-hitting team from Little League West placed three of their sluggers on the team. George Adams, Gabriel Garcia, and Tommy Stratta paced the West stars to the semi-finals, and have been cited for their achievements. Only one player, Roy Seamon, ws chosen from East on this Bryan-College Station dominated team. Players were chosen based on their performance in tourna- ment games only. Eric Peterson who pitched and hit the C.S. All-Stars to the South Zone title was named Player of the Year in the Brazos Valley. Peterson pitched on the invincible Phillies in College Station's Little League for four years and was never defeated. Peterson was also a Long ball threat every time he came to the plate for Ray Scott's Phillies.
