The tigers got their 1966 grid season off to a good start with an 18 -2 victory over Wharton. The Sept. 9 game brought some history, too. This was the first opening game a Tiger football team has won since District 21-AA days in 1959. Despite a wet field, Terry Logan managed to average 40 yards in 3 unexpected punts. Several Fred Davis- to-Terry Logan plays and a special Logan-to-David Terral" Tommy McDonald" move, highlighted the game. ! t .; ." , t l Mexia Wins 16-21 t The 21-16 score does not show what a hard fought game the Tigers played Sept. 23. After Mexia's first TD, David Terral ran the ball up to the 48 yd. line. After several Fred Davis passes, Terry Logan took the hand -off on in for the first Tiger points. The extra two came on a Davis-to- Leroy Clark pass. Paul Becker started the next T. D. drive by recovering a Mexia fumble. Six points came with a Davis-to-Clark pass, and the extra two came when Davis faked a kick and passed to Terral. Mexia disrupted the 16-14 score with a last minute drive. ~ Tigers Tie Indians The Consolidated Tigers and the Cleveland Indi- ans tied the score 6-6, before the half and left it like that for the rest of the game. Consolidated took a Cleveland punt on the 13 yard line, used 14 plays for 67 yards, and ended the drive with a flourish when Fred Davis threw a 20 yard pass to Leroy Clark, who then scored. LaGrange ~ 3; Tigers - 0 The opening district 10-AAA was played on the CBS field with LaGrange. Only once did LaGrange move inside the Tiger 25 yard line, but that was, all that was needed to win. They kicked a field goal on the fourth down. Tigers, Mike Litterst, Terry Logan, and David Terral, each intercepted one pass during the game. Tigt " 4 Tigers Win Over Georgetown 20-6 The Tigers bettered their 2-1-2 record Oct. 21 by beating Georgetown 20-6. David Terral scored the first points after a 46 yard drive. Then after several fumbles by both teams, Consolidated had the ball, and Mike Litterst ran it olf in. With Larkin McNeil's kick the score was 13-0. A Fred Davis-to-Terry Logan pass finished with a thrilling 41 yd. run into the end zone by Logan. After McNeil's kick, the score re- mained 20 - 6. , Tigers Beat Furr 21-0 The Oct. 14 game With Houston Furr brought a light in the 3rd quarter, blocked punts, fumbles, penalties and thru it all a 21-0 victory for the Tigers. David Terral scored first with Larkin McNeil adding the extra point. The next Tiger drive went 66 yards in 6 plays and ended with Terry Logan scoring and MaNeil again adding another point. The final Tiger score came by way of a Fred Davis-to-Logan pass into the end zone, and McNeil adding an extra point. Conroe Over Tigers 45-8 Conroe, marching toward district cham- pions, smashed the Tigers boosting their record to 5-0 in loop play. The Tigers scored after a six play 64 yd. drive when Fred Davis completed a 22 yd. pass to Mike Litterest; then another 10 yd. pass by Davis to Terry Logan. 88 Homecoming 1966 The Tiger football players fought hard for the October 28 Homecoming game. By means of a 10 yd. pass by Fred Davis to Larkin McNiel, a 10 yd. run by McNiel in- to the end zone, then an extra-point kick by McNiel, and the Tigers were leading 7-0. The second Tiger score .came when Leon Nelson reversed his field :and skirted his left end for 22 yds. and the T. D. Terry Logan took the ball and ran it in. Mc Niel's kick was good, leaving the score 20-8. B B R ~ Fog The aerials of quarterback Fred Davis were unable to take off be- cause of heavy fog, and the Cyprus Fairbanks Bobcats grounded the Tigers in this district battle. Huntsville Game Ends the Tiger Season The Tigers closed out their 1966 Gridiron season with a convincing win over Huntsville, 20-8. An 8 yd. scoring play came with 4:17 left in the game with a pass by Fred Davis to Mike Litterest. The Tigers allowed the Hornets possession of the ball for only four plays the entire first quarter. Deep in the second quarter a 5 yd. 'gain by Paul Becker on the 41, then a completed pass by Davis to Terry Lo- gan who ran 30 yds. for the touchdown set the Tigers with a 14-0 lead. The Hornets made a comeback in the second half raising the score 14-8. With 54 seconds left in the game the Tigers, with the aid of Logan's swift yardage, and a pass final score, 20-8. I wondered why It left familiar things behind. A hand caught mine. . . I paid no mind. The stranger never once did say Just what had brought him on my way. On we went, and some afraid I wished I hadn't come, but stayed. All the friends that I once knew Took a road named Goodbye too. There.were no two roads just the same Though all were called Goodbye by name. The road went on; we went on<too, And I was sad, for then I knew That never could I be the same Having walked down Goodbye Land. And though I couldn't understand We walked together hand in hand. We said no words, but just walked on, I thought of things now past and gone. I thought of games I'd lost and won, I thought of all the things I'd done, I thought of those I loved and cared, Of times we'd had, of things we'd shared. I thoughi: of those I'd come to know. Just knowing them - they'd helped me so. I thought of things, of tears I'd shed. . . Those same things now brought smiles instead. The tasks I'd done, those left to do, I wondered how I'd made it through When something inside seems to say, "The best you can from day to day. " The way \Y'as rough; I knew the score, It never ends. . . there's always more. But now I know that all in all Each thing, in its own piace will fall. I thought of all the happy days, The sad ones now just seemed a haze, And in a flash I came to see How much the past had meant to me. We walked along - I wondered where The future led and what was there. The past still echoed from behind I was its, and it was mine. But in my heart was still a fear, And in my eye a shining tear; Yet on my face there was a smile And we walked forward all the while. I walked along the road Goodbye. I looked back once. . . I heaved a sigh. Then I remembered at my side - My silent, but my constant guide. The stranger's hand I felt in mine. I looked into his face this time. I asked his name - he turned just so, He smiled and said, ''I'm called Hello.
