Florence . Eubank died
suddenly from a heart attack
at 9:30am on Monday,
January 30, 2006 in College
Station, Texas. She was
born on December 21,
1935 in new Castle, PA, to
Nannie (Vosler) arid Grover
Stevenson. She was, raised
in the family farmhouse near
Volant, PA, and later in 1957
receiv~d an under graduate
degree from nearby Slippery
Rock State University in Education.
She then graduated from Syracuse University in 1959 with a Masters
degree in Sociology. She was pursuing a PhD degree at Northwestern
University when she met Philip (Toby) Eubank and they were married
at the university in 1960. She then went to work for ffiM in downtown
Chicago teaching customers of the first commercial computers.
Following her husband's PhD degree in Chemical Engineering in
early 1961, she moved to College Station where her husband was then
to teach at Texas A&M University for the next 44 years. She taught high
school English and Math at Hearne, Texas, for three years before raisi~g
a family. She later taught at both Allen Academy and at St. Michael's
Academy. She was President of the Texas A&M Women's Club on two
occasions and was active in a number of local social organizations.
Florence was also a tennis player and horsewoman until recent years; she
remained active in ballroom, round and square dancing having taught
a class in round dancing the day before she passed away. She was known
as a world traveler to her many friends having visited over 110 countrie&
and all 50 states.
Florence is survived by her husband Toby Eubank of Bryan, her son
Steven Eubank & his wife Roberta of College Station and her daughter
Valerie Peck & husband Jeffrey Peck of Seattle, WA. She is also survived
by a granddaughter Trinity Peck of Seattle, a sister Helen Barnes of
Ocala, FL, and her husband Geoffrey Barnes, plus three nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30pm Thursday, February 2,
2006 at Hillier Funeral Home.
Florence was a wonderful mother and wife who would do anything
for her family. She was also a lifelong friend to many in this community.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her but who also understand
that she lived life to the fullest extent.
