HomeMy WebLinkAboutHPC - August 2023 Minutes Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 August 07, 2023, Minutes Staff Present: Michael Isermann, Assistant Director; Andrea Lauer, Business Services Manager; Luis Perez, Recreation Supervisor Board Present: Gerald Burgner, Louis Hodges, Sherry Frisk, Lisa Mouton, Tre Watson, Tom Turbiville Unexcused Absence: Gary Halter Council Members Present: None 1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests. With a quorum present, the History Preservation Committee Board was called to order by Gerald Burgner on Monday, August 07, 2023, at 4 p.m. Jessica Williams and Ben White requested an absence. Upon a motion from Sherry Frisk and a second by Tre Watson the Historic Preservation Committee voted to approve the absence requests. The motion passed unanimously. 2. Hear visitors. None. 3. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Upon a motion from Sherry Frisk and a second by Lou Hodges, the Historic Preservation Committee approved the minutes as written for July 10, 2023. 3.2 A. Cemetery Sherry Frisk mentioned that the Dedication for the State Marker is set for September 8th @ 10 a.m. this date is also the Southside 100th Anniversary. She is working with Stephan in Parks to help with set-up and Sherry is working on getting the speakers lined up. B. Historical Marker Program The Roans Chapel reached out and said they had lost the marker they had received several years ago, the committee stated that they would have to resubmit the application and pay the fee to get a new marker. C. Exploring History Lunch Series Luis Perez mentioned that the cost will go from $7 to $10 in September, Tom mentioned that speakers are set for Jan-May and Nov. of 2024. D. Project HOLD Report Meaghan O’Rourke has been helping Casey Borone with Visit College Station with then and now landmarks around College Station. She is also gathering photos for Larry Ringers funeral. She has also scanned and retuned Debbie Coopers photos. Historic Preservation Committee Board College Station, TX Page 2 E. Oral History Interviews None F. America’s 250 Sherry Frisk said that there are 10 bricks left to purchase, and they are waiting on the appropriate time to plant. G. 85th Birthday of City of College Station The date is set for October 19th, Jessica is working on the scavenger hunt, and working with Meaghan to create a form for those that loan items for the event. 3.3 Report by the Liaison of Parks and Recreation on matters pertaining to the Historic Preservation Board. None 3.4 Identification of upcoming local or area historical programs Southside 100th Anniversary 4. Discussion and possible action of future agenda items. Discuss additions to the American Mile. 5. Presentation of historical items Items were passed around. 6. Adjourn. Upon a motion from Lisa Mouton and a second from Sherry Frisk, the Historic Preservation Committee adjourned the meeting @ 5:04 p.m., the motion passed unanimously.
