AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING BICYCLES AND PEDESTRIANS FROM USING THE
TRAFFIC LANES OF GEORGE BUSH DRIVE, BETWEEN THE ROADWAYS MARION
PUGH DRIVE AND FARM MARKET ROAD 2818, FOR A PERIOD OF TIME OF
APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS FROM THIS DATE FORWARD. THE
CONSTRUCTION ON GEORGE BUSH DRIVE, FROM MARION PUGH DRIVE TO
FARM MARKET ROAD 2818, IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED AT THE END OF
THIS TWO YEAR PERIOD.
WHEREAS, the City of College Station may amend from time to time the designated
bikeways and other streets where bicycle and pedestrian traffic are to be prohibited.
The designated prohibited roadways for pedestrian and bicycle traffic for the City of
College Station shall be controlled by appropriate signing from the manual of Uniform
Traffic Control Devices.
WHEREAS, George Bush Drive, from the approximate location of Marion Pugh Drive
to Farm Market Road 2818, is presently under construction for a period of two years
until approximately the 31st day of December, 1997. Said construction on George
Bush Drive has caused the lanes on George Bush Drive to be narrowed and the
shoulders to be removed from the roadway, from the approximate location of Marion
Pugh Drive to Farm Market Road 2818. In addition, twenty-eight inch wide concrete
barriers have been placed on both sides of George Bush Drive from the approximate
location of Marion Pugh Drive to Farm Mari~et Road 2818.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of College Station heard evidence that the
aforementioned traffic construction conditions on George Bush Drive, from the location
Marion Pugh Drive to Farm Market Road 2818, represent a danger to bicycle users and
pedestrians and render the roadway unsafe for pedestrians and bicycle users.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of the City of College Station,
Texas that George Bush Drive, from the location Marion Pugh Drive to Farm Market
Road 2818, is hereby a prohibited roadway for bicycle users and pedestrians from this
day forward until the date the construction on George Bush Drive is completed. Said
date for completion of the construction on George Bush Drive has been set for
approximately the 31st day of December, 1997 but is subject to change according to
the progress of said construction. If the date for completion of said construction is
extended, then this ordinance shall prohibit bicycles and pedestrians from using George
Bush Drive, from the location Marion Pugh Drive to Farm Market Road 2818, until the
day the construction is completed on George Bush Drive. This portion of George Bush
Drive shall be a prohibited roadway for bicycle users and pedestrians and shall be
marked by appropriate signing according to the manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices.
