HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/07/2022 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee (2) MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday March 7, 2022 Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842 The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Louis Hodges - ✓ Marilyn Randall - U Sherry Frisk - ✓ Gerald Burgner - ✓ William Wright - ✓ Shirley Dupriest - ✓ Thomas Smith - ✓ Tre Watson - ✓ Marilyn Maddox - ✓ Linda Harvell; City Council - E Ana Romero - Park Liaison - ✓ Crystal Garcia; Staff Assistant I - ✓ 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. by Chair Gerald Burgner • Shirley Dupriest made a motion to approve the January minutes, Sherry Frisk seconded the motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously. 2. Visitors – Jane Cohen 3. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and possible action on the proposal for a Texas Historical Marker for Parkland Dedication in the City of College Station. • Cemetery Project: Sherry Frisk had no update on cemetery. She did note that she attended the Real Places Conference. Noted that she intends on applying for a state historical marker for both the Shiloh and Salem Cemeteries. • Historic Marker Program: Shirley Dupriest submitted an application for a historical marker for her architectural home off of Dexter Dr. Tre Watson suggested and asked about a business marker for the Millican Massacre. Patricia Cleere has paid for her marker but will be waiting until July to have it presented with family present. • Gerald Burgner asked Ana Romero if there was any update the retraction section for bylaws. Ana answered they are being put through PR as well legal will review them as they were last reviewed in early 1980s. • Exploring History Lunch Series: Next luncheon is February 16th on Women the good and the bad. Gerald Burger and Louis Hodges requested a report from Ana from the costs. Ana Romero reported that there is no longer a budget line as all funds were used to purchase history books. Both Jane Cohen and William Wright suggested providing a sponsorship package to help with numbers. • Mccullough (Mcculloch) Neighborhood: Interviews are in the process of being scheduled but not yet done. Shirley Frisk has talked with Barbara Moore to have small groups go to the LRC to talk with senior women there and have the story documented on video. • 250th Birthday: Jane Cohen informed that there is a meeting next month on the unknown solider and the Never Forgotten Garden Veterans Memorial that was focused on fundraising. The upcoming meeting on Wednesday will be on programming. Information provided to gather sizes and styles from members. Ana Romero will invite Shirley Dupriest as she requested to speak with Steve Wright concerning budget. Gerald Burgner noted that the main restrictions are funding as of right now. 3.3 Upcoming events - None 3.4 Presentation of historic items – Louis Hodges brought a French prayer book published in 1696 that is 325 years old. William Wright brought a “Texas Aggie Magazine” that had the history of the silver tabs. 4. No discussion and or possible action on future agenda items. 5. Motion made by William Wright to adjourn, second by Tre Watson, and carried by unanimous vote at 530PM. The next HPC meeting will be held on Monday March 7, at 4pm.
