Safety Requirements & Guidelines
Required Attire
To ensure safety and maintain a professional appearance, all Community Service Workers must
adhere to the following dress code:
• Safety Vest: An orange safety vest must be worn at all times during your shift. This will
be provided by Northgate staff.
• Footwear: Closed -toed shoes are mandatory. Open -toed footwear is not permitted.
• Weather -Appropriate Clothing: Dress according to current weather conditions.
Please check the forecast before reporting for duty. Clothing must be modest and free
of offensive language or imagery.
• Optional Items:
• Hat.
• Sunglasses.
• Sunscreen.
Restroom Facilities
• Restrooms are available at 310 Church Avenue.
• These public facilities are maintained daily by a City -contracted cleaning service.
• Separate restrooms are available for men and women, each equipped with:
• Toilet paper.
• Sink with warm water and soap.
• Hand dryer.
Hvdration
• Due to colds, flu and COVID-19 precautions, you must bring your own bottle and
water. Water will not be provided.
• Please bring an adequate supply to stay hydrated throughout your shift.
• Do not share water bottles with others under any circumstances.
Personal Belonqinqs
• Leave valuables such as wallets and purses secured in your vehicle (i.e. trunk) and out
of public view.
• Ensure your vehicle is locked before reporting for duty.
On -Duty Conduct & Safety Protocols
To maintain a safe and productive environment, the following rules must be observed at all
times:
• Use tools responsibly and safely. Do not engage in horseplay.
• Never leave tools unattended. You are accountable for all equipment checked out to
you.
• Do not handle hazardous items such as used needles, razor blades, or suspected drugs.
Report these to staff immediately.
• Avoid lifting objects that are too heavy or attempt to retrieve litter from dangerous or
inaccessible areas (i.e., steep slopes, water, etc.).
• Stay clear of traffic. Do not collect litter from roadways or interfere with traffic flow.
• Avoid unstable, rocky, or slippery surfaces.
• Be cautious of insects and wildlife. Do not approach or handle animals.
• Do not pick up broken glass with your hands or gloves. Use appropriate tools such as a
trash grabber or broom and dustpan.
• Pranks or behavior that endangers yourself, others, or the public will result in immediate
dismissal from the program.
• Do not compact trash bags manually, as this may result in injury from sharp objects.
• Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited while participating in this program.
