Present: Louis Hodges -  Marilyn Randall -  Sherry Frisk -  Gerald Burgner -  William Wright -  Shirley Dupriest -  Thomas Smith -  Julie Schultz - U David Fujimoto - E Linda Harvell; City Council -  Ana Romero - Park Liaison -  Cory Raney; Staff Assistant II -  1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. by Chair Gerald Burgner • David Fujimoto made a request for absence. Thomas Smith made a motion to approve the absence request. Sherry Frisk second the motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously. • Louis Hodges made a motion to approve the July minutes Thomas Smith, second the motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously. 2. George and Mary Dresser are visitors in todays meeting for the Historic Marker Application that was submitted for their home 501 Fairview Ave in College Station. 3. Agenda Items 3.1 Presentation, discussion, and possible action on the proposal for a Texas Historical Marker for Parkland Dedication in the City of College Station. • Cemetery Project: The Texas State Marker for the College Station Cemetery has been paid for and is now processing through the Texas Historical Commission in Austin. This process can take up to two years. The cemetery walk has been postponed until further notice. • Historic Marker Program: 501 Fairview Ave. in College Station was once a campus home. George Dresser is in attendance today to see if his application will be approved for a historical marker. Shirley Dupriest stated there should be further information on the history of the transfer with the home from campus to its current location. Louis Hodges made a motion to approve the marker. Sherry Frisk second the motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously. The Dresser Family will be awarded the historical home marker #108 at city council. Gerald Burgner stated he will get with Ian Whittenton on a time to schedule the presentation with council and will get parks once a date has been confirmed. • Exploring History Lunch Series: Committee discussed possible speakers for the lunch series. Gerald Burger will get a list of names and titles over to Ana Romero for the fall registration. • Removal Process/Protocol for Historic Markers: Nothing to report. • Mccullough Neighborhood: Barbara Moore spoke with Carolyn Walden and HPC as well, they brainstormed on ideas for a committee to preserve the history of the neighborhood. Carolyn Walden gave her a few names that could possibly be on the committee. Mid-August would be the best time to schedule the first meeting for the committee. Barbara Moore discussed some other possible neighborhoods that are wanting to preserve the history as well if the committee is interested. Once the first meeting is had the subcommittee will go from there on where they would like to go with this project and future projects. • 250th Birthday: Nothing to report. Discussions on hold • College Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives • Special Research Committee • Project Hold Report • HPC Website • Historical Home Awareness • Historic Business Designation • Historic Award • COCS Documentary • HPC Social Media Posting 3.2 Ana Romero had nothing new to report. 3.3 September 11, 2021, a dedication will be had at Veteran’s Park in remembrance of 9/11. 3.4 Sherry Frisk presented an A&M Consolidated tax notice from her parents in 1942. The taxes in 1942 were $12.50. She also presented a child’s ticket to an annual pet show from 1948 that cost an admission of $0.10. Lastly she presented a first reader book, “Tag and Dot at the farm.” By Cornelia Brown Sloop from 1942. Louis Hodges presented a cigar box with items such as a letter opener, rings, and more. 4. No discussion and or possible action on future agenda items. 5. Motion made to adjourn by Sherry Frisk, second by William Wright, and carried by unanimous vote at 5:10 PM. The next HPC meeting will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 4pm via Zoom.
