Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum present, the Historic Preservation Committee was called to order by Chair Linda Harvell at 4:01 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Stephen C. Beachy Central Park Office, 1000 Krenek Tap Road, College Station, Texas 77842. 2. Hear Visitors No visitor comments. 3. Possible action and discussion on absence requests. No action taken. 4. Possible action and discussion of previous minutes. MOTION: The Committee voted unanimously to approve the minutes. 5. Chair Meeting Introduction Chair Harvell introduced the meeting, and conveyed the importance of 75th Anniversary related activities, and encouraged members to volunteer or recruit volunteers. 6. Report from HPC staff on Historic Records Coordinator Office activities. Jacob Morris distributed a report, and summarized developments occurring over the previous month, including Project HOLD, partnerships, and volunteers. He reported that Kyle Kacal’s office has submitted a resolution recognizing the 75th year of incorporation before the Texas legislature. 7. Presentation, possible action and discussion of the Brazos Valley Speaks Program, and opportunities for partnership with City of College Station oral history initiatives. Pat Cleere introduced members of the Brazos Valley Speaks (BVS) program: Sunny Nash, Anne Preston, and Bill Watkins. She then summarized the program, which is regional in scope. BVS members then summarized specific topics, individuals, as well as past and planned initiatives. Members agreed to collaborate to share information and increase and effectiveness and efficiency. 8. Discussion and possible action regarding the June EH Luncheon, the Junction Boys. Committee discussed plans for upcoming Exploring History Luncheons. Sherry Mashburn reported that she had not received specifics regarding dates for the Junction Boys luncheon, or which of them may speak, but would coordinate with Marci Rodgers and find out. Committee then discussed potential sponsors for August, options suggested included: HEB- Gary Ives Kroger-Gary Ives Koppe Bridge Subway-Joel Mitchell 9. Review, possible action, and discussion regarding the following sub-committees: Historic Marker Program No developments. Oral History Transcription Project No developments- see item 7 for related. Exploring History Lunch Series No new developments- see item 8 for related. 75th Anniversary Linda Harvell reported that the immediate focus is fundraising and sponsorships, and encouraged members to assist. Garv Ives volunteered.Chair reported that the event now has a Facebook page, and is gaining visibility. She reminded members that this event may be attractive to sponsors because it is for one year only, and that cash donations are tax deductible. She added that items loaned for exhibits at the Bush Library will be physically collected/delivered around early September. College Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives – Libby Vastano No developments. 10. Discussion and possible action on future agenda items. Committee discussed adding an agenda item to discuss next year’s Exploring History Lunch Series, including a possible change of venue. 12. Adjournment MOTION: The Committee moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:26 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013.
