Summation of Year's Activities
The school year of 1967-68 has been the most
productive ever in the history of the A&M Consoli-
dated Band Program,
The Tiger Band Twirling Corps began the
year by winning a 1 st division for the third consecu-
tive year and also won several 1 st division solo
medals,
Eleven members of the Tiger Band were named
to the All-District Band in December, In January, six
of these students were named to the AII- Region Band,
Both totals were all-time highs for Tiger Band repre-
sentation,
Two students, Robert Manning and Larry Wilhoit,
went on to make the All-State Band for the second
consecutive year,
Twenty-six students from the 7th, 8th, and 9th
grades were named to the Junior High All-Region
Band which was hosted locally in February.
In March, both the Tiger Band and 7th-8th
grade band participated in solo and ensemble com-
petition and accumulated a record number of medals.
Each band won 57 first division medals for a grand
total of 114, Thirty-eight of these students qualified
for the state solo and ensemble contest in June,
The biggest accomplishments of the year came
in April when the Tiger Band and 7th.8th grade
band both participated in the UIL Concert and S[ght-
Reading Contest in Temple and in May, when
the 6th grade band participated in the Blinn College
Elementary Music Meet in Brenham. All three bands
came home with 1 st divisions, The Tiger Band re-
ceived a 1 st division in concert (the only 1 st division
in AAA) and a 2nd division in sight-reading; the 7th-
8th grade band received a 1 st division in sight-
reading and a 2nd division in concert; and the 6th
grade band received a 1 st division in concert.
