HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/05/2017 - Regular Minutes - Historic Preservation Committee MINUTES Historic Preservation Committee Monday, June 05, 2017 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842. The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Committee: Louis Hodges (chair) Sherry Frisk Gerald Burgner Katherine Edwards Andy Smith Chantal Vessali Benjamin Zimmer Not Present: Marilyn Randall Anat Geva City Staff: David Schmitz Andrea Lauer Linda Harvell – Council Member 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. 2. Anat Geva and Marilyn Randall requested absences and it was approved. 3. The Historic Preservation Committee voted unanimously to approve the June minutes. 4. Chris Cowen was present during hear visitors and voiced his concern regarding a valid replacement of a Historical Marker #91 on his neighbor’s house. He did not agree that the current house should qualify for the marker. 5. Katherine Edwards will sent Draft #3 of the Historic Home Tour to the Parks Department for formatting, it will go to the PR department and once it is complete and sent back to the HPC Committee for approval we will sent it out for quotes for printing. The Committee will get together in the future and talk about revising the guidelines for applicants requesting a new marker or replacing a previous marker. A suggestion was made that members of the committee would meet the applicant at the location that is requesting the marker and to physically look at the actual property and meet the owner and get the history before approving the application. The committee will vote on the application for a Historical Marker for 7 00 Thomas Street at the July meeting. Lou will contact the owners and let them know the process. Katherine Edwards has asked Benjamin Zimmer to take her place for scheduling speakers for Exploring History Lunch Lectures starting January 2018. 6. David Schmitz updated the committee on the new Kiosk at the Brazos Valley Veteran’s Memorial in Veteran’s Park. 7. No local programing or activities were added to the calendar. 8. 700 Thomas Street Historic Marker Application will be added to the next agenda. 9. No historical items were brought for show and tell. 10. Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
