HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/30/2017 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting October 30, 2017 Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. 10:00 a.m. Minutes Members Present: Jean Adams, Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Russell Kohel, Jeanne Machrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Mickey Stokes, Norma Teetes, Darla VanFickell, Christine Williams, Janet Wood and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Carol Blaschke and Barbara Pratt Staff Present: David Schmitz, Ana Romero and Marci Rodgers Visitors Present: Frank Duchmasclo, Elianor Vessali, Bob Brick and John Nichols I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:04 a.m. by Jerry Crockett, Chairman II. Hear Visitors: Chairman Crockett welcomed and introduced the visitors. III. Approval of minutes from September 25, 2017 meeting: Bryana Childers made a motion to approve the minutes. Darla VanFickell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Update on Bob Meyer Gift and the Arts Center facility with David Schmitz: An update on the Meyer gift was given by David Schmitz. The city has received all the funds for a total of $750,000. The gift was given to the City of College Station to advance and support senior programs. A “Pool Trout Fish Out” Program will resume in the fall and named after Mr. Bob Meyer. A plaque has been hung in the lobby of Southwood Community Center to commemorate Wanda and Bob Meyer and their generous gift to the city. The city has $363,000. set aside in project money to be used along with the Meyer gift for renovation and modificat ion of the Arts Center. The new facility will give priority to senior programs. V. Discussion and possible action on amending Senior Advisory Committee By-Laws: The committee reviewed the current by-laws and Christine Williams made the motion that the newly approved Senior Advisory Committee Mission Statement should be stated for the PURPOSE. Mickey Stokes seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. A revised copy of the amended by-laws will be presented at the City of College Station Page 2 of 2 November 27, 2017 meeting for approval. VI. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events: (Report attached) Marc i Rodgers reported on participation numbers along with current and upcoming activities. The committee received a copy of the November calendar. Applications for Senior Advisory Committee are due November 30, 2017. The Parks and Recreation Board will appoint new members at the December 12th meeting. VII. Presentation, discussion and possible act ion on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Approve amended By-laws • Recommendations for Chair and Vice- Chair for 2018 • Discuss December meeting VIII.
