HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/28/2016 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting November 28, 2016 Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. 10:00 a.m. Minutes Members Present: Jean Adams, Carol Blaschke, Margaret Carmichael, Jerry Crockett, Russell Kohel, Jeanne Machrowicz, June Morris, Arlene Petroski, Mickey Stokes, Darla VanFickell, Christine Williams and Janet Wood. Members Absent: Bryana Childers, Jerry Crockett, Norma Teetes and Joanna Yeager Visitors: Shirley Baker Staff Present: Kelly Kelbly and Marci Rodgers I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Margaret Carmichael, Vice -Chairman. II. Hear Visitors : Visitors were welcomed. III. Approval of minutes from meeting held on October 31, 2016: Arle ne Petroski made a motion to approve the minutes. Darla VanFickell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Overview and possible action on current Resolutions of The Texas Silver-Haired Legislature with Al Campbell: Mr. Campbell serves as the Chairman for the Brazos Valley Regional Advisory Committee on Aging. He is also a state representative for the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature Brazos Valley District. Mr. Campbell explained the purpose of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and some of the resolutions from the TSHL that are now laws. Mr. Campbell said the Senior Advisory Committee could help by making suggestions to the local representatives on issues not only concerning older Texans, but all citizens. V. Review and possible action on 2016 Senior Advisory Committee Goals: Micke y Stokes, Chair of the Goals Sub -Committee , reviewed the current goals and action steps taken to achieve those goals. (updated goals attached) VI. Service Awards and Recognition of members: Marci Rodgers recognized the service of Margaret Carmichael for the past four years with a plaque from the City of College Station for her leadership on the Senior Advisory Committee. Discussion and possible action concerning recommendations for Chair and Vice- Chair for Senior Advisory Committee 2017: Russell Kohl made a motion to recommend to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board that Jerry Crockett be appointed Chairman for 2017. June Morris seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Christine Williams made a motion to recommend to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board that Jean Adams be appointed Vice -Chair for 2017. Janet Wood seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VIII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events : (Report Attached) Marci Rodgers distributed the December calendar and discussed November activities and upcoming programs for December including the Age of Elegance on December 10th at Lincoln Center, The Holiday Open House at Southwood on December 14th and Christmas Dance on December 15th. IX. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting: Mickey Stokes made a motion for the committee not to meet in December. Jean Adams seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. • Program Sub -Committee report X. Adjourn: The meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
