HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/31/2015 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory CommitteeCollege Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, August 31, 2015 Southwood Community Center 10:00 a.m. MINUTES Members Present: Jerry Crockett, Frank Duchmasclo, Russell Kohel, Susan McGrail, Jerry Markowich, June Morris, Pearl Robertson, Mickey Stokes, Pat VanderBoom and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Margaret Carmichael and Ann Hays I. Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 10:06 a.m. by Frank Duchmasclo, Chairman II. Hear Visitors - Visitors were introduced by Mr. Duchmasclo. Visitors had no comments III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on July 27, 2015 - Jerry Markowich made the motion to approve the minutes. Mickey Stokes seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Update and discussion on future plans for senior facility with Kelly Templin, City Manager – Mr. Templin discussed the possibility of the current Arts Council Facility located on the corner of Dartmouth and Colgate as a future center for senior programs and activities. The Arts Council’s lease will terminate in March, 2016. He asked the committee for input. The committee discussed the need for more space for programs and some concerns included good acoustics, storage , large rooms with dividing walls and reasonable fees. Mr. Templin explained that the committee’s input is important and he would like to return next month with Mayor Berry. The committee expressed appreciation to Mr. Temp lin and Mr. Schmitz for their attendance at the meeting. V. Report from Program sub-committee meeting - (report attached) Pat VanderBoom reported that members of the Program Sub-committee met on August 17, 2015 to discuss September through December monthly calendars. The sub-committee will meet again on November 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. VI. Upda te and discussion on status of 2015 Senior Advisory Committee Goals -No updates at this time. VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (Report Attached) Marci Rodgers reported on July attendance figures. Members received a copy of the September calendar and Fall Activity guide. The Annual Fall Fest will be held on October 22, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Veteran’s Park. Members received a Fund Summary of Mr. Meyer’s Estate Gift. VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Update from City Manager and Mayor on Arts Council Facility as future Senior Center. IX. Adjourn – The meeting adjourned at 11:28 a.m.
