HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/29/2015 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, June 29, 2015 10:00am Southwood Community Center 10:00 a.m. MINUTES Members Present: Margaret Carmichael, Jerry Crockett, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Russell Kohel, June Morris, Pearl Robertson, Mickey Stokes, Patricia VanderBoom and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Susan McGrail and Jerry Markowich I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Frank Duchmasclo, Chairman. II. Hear Visitors : No visitors III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on April 27, 2015. June Morris noted two corrections to the minutes. Under item IV change period to commas on $148,750 and $711,407. Jerry Crockett made the motion to approve the minutes with the corrections. Mickey Stokes seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Bryan College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau request for volunteers presented by Joseph Merlo: Joseph Merlo was introduced and spoke to the committee about volunteer opportunities with the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Bureau is looking for “Front Desk Volunteers ” and information booth workers at tradeshows, events or conventions. Volunteers may choose the number of hours per week to volunteer. A completed application should be sent to Joseph Merlo at the B/CS Convention and Visitors Bureau. V. Report on Recreation Center Tours in Georgetown and Cedar Park (attached): Members of the Senior Advisory Committee traveled on May 13, 2015 to Georgetown and Cedar Park to tour the community recreation centers. Ann Hays, Frank Duchmasclo, Russell Kohel, June Morris and Margaret Carmichael along with staff members, Dana Albrecht and Marci Rodgers met with the center managers. Both centers were built in 2009 with citizen approval of bond money. The committee was interested in learning about senior programs offered and to see the facilities and how the space was utilized. VI. Update and discussion on status of 2015 Senior Advisory Committee G oals: Goals were reviewed and no updates at this time. VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (attached): Upcoming events include a watermelon social with College Station Police Department on July 15th. The deadline for the fall activity guide is July 10 th and TAAF Games of Texas will be held on July 30 – August 3, 2015. VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Report and Discussion on 2015 Bond Election IX.
