HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/19/2014 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory CommitteeCollege Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, May 19, 2014 10:00am Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd Minutes Members Present: Jerry Crockett, Frank Duchmasclo, Russell Kohel, Susan McGrail, Jerry Markowich, Pearl Robertson, Pat VanderBoom and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: Margaret Carmichael, Jon Denton and Ann Hays Visitors Present: Krista Dabney and Ariel Rosentswieg with Bryan Broadcasting Staff Present: Marci Rodgers I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00am by Frank Duchmasclo, Chairman II. Hear Visitors Krista Dabney and Ariel Rosentswieg with Bryan Broadcasting III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on April 28, 2014 Russell Kohel made the motion to approve the minutes from the April 28, 2014 meeting. Jerry Markowich seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Presentation and discussion on senior content and information for Bryan Broadcasting Publications with Ariel Rosentswieg Krista Dabney and Ariel Rosentswieg with Bryan Bro adcasting were interested in learning from the committee any topics of interest they would like to see included in the magazines. Also, they were interested in suggestions for additional locations for distribution of the free magazines. Ms. Dabney and Ms. Rosentswieg left their business cards and encouraged committee members to contact them if they have additional suggestions for articles. V. Presentation and discussion regarding “Bob Meyer” Memorial Committee report (Report attached) Joanna Yeager reported for the committee. The committee felt strongly that funds from the Bob Meyer Bequest should not be used for facility maintenance, renovations or additions and that the city budget should support those items . The committee felt strongly that the funds should be used for brick and mortar of a future senior center. The committee would also support a designated senior area within a future community center . Jerry Crockett made the motion to send David Schmitz, Parks and Recreation Department Director, the notes from the April 28, 2014 meeting with the Bob Meyer Memorial Committee for his review and a recommendation for future direction for the committee. Pearl Robertson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The committee asked that this item be placed on the agenda for the June meeting. VI. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee Goals FY 2014 no action taken VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (Report attached) Marci Rodgers reviewed the times members signed up to work the Senior Services booth at the Senior Expo on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Brazos Center. The June calendar was discussed. VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Bob Meyer Memorial Committee IX. Adjourn The meeting adjourned at 11:00am
