HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/27/2014 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory CommitteeCollege Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, October 27, 2014 10:00am Southwood Community Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd Minutes Members present: Margaret Carmichael, Jerry Crockett, Jon Denton, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Russell Kohel, Susan McGrail, Jerry Markowich, Pearl Robertson and Pat VanderBoom Members absent: Joanna Yeager Staff Present: Marci Rodgers I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00am by Frank Duchmasclo, Chairman II. Hear Visitors No visitors present III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on September 29, 2014 Russell Kohel made the motion to approve the minutes. Jerry Markowich seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. IV. Presentation, discussion and possible action on report from program sub- committee (Report on file) Pat VanderBoom reported for the sub-committee. On October 21, 2014, Rhonda Haverland, Pat VanderBoom, Joanna Yeager and Ron Silvia met with Marci Rodgers. The sub -committee reviewed upcoming activities and programs for October and discussed the November, December and January monthly calendars. The committee made several suggestions for future movies and new classes to consider. “Heart Week” is planned for February with a week of heart health activities. The deadline for the Spring Activity Guide is November 20, 2014. The Committee will meet again in January. V. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee Goals FY 2014 No action taken VI. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior S ervices Coordinator Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (report on file) The committee was reminded of the upcoming free seminar with Jerry Crockett on legal and financial documents and the fall dance. A report was given on the train trip held on October 4th and the recent Fall Fest. Coming in November a free Korean Style Fitness class will be offered on Thursdays from 9-10am in November and December. Steve Beachy with the Veteran’s Memorial Board will be the speaker at the November 19th Exploring History Luncheon. VII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of e xisting policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Report on the Senior Friendly Business Award • Bob Meyer gift to the city update • Report from David Schmitz on signage for senior center VIII.
