Regular Meeting

Members Present: Margaret Carmichael, Jon Denton, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Jerry
Markowich, Pearl Robertson and Pat VanderBoom
Members Absent: Susan McGrail, Robert Meyer, Mabelene Robinson, and Ron Silvia
Staff Present: Marci Rodgers
I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00am by Frank Duchmasclo,
Chairman
II. Welcome and hear visitors No visitors present
III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on July 29, 2013 Jerry Markowich
made a motion to approve the minutes. Ann Hays seconded the motion.
IV. Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning College Station Senior
Games Jon Denton reported to the committee that there were almost 200
participants in the 2013 games. Approximately 85% were from out of town.
Participants were very positive about the games and there were no major injuries. Jon
Denton reported how timely the results were posted on the website for the games.
Suggestions from the committee included better signage for Southwood Community
Center and more media coverage of the event in local paper with photos and results
listed. The 2014 Senior Games will be held February 20-23 which is a month and a
half before the state games.
V. Presentation, possible action and discussion on 75th Celebration The 75th
Homecoming Event will be held at Southwood Community Center on Friday,
November 15th. A ticket is necessary and a BBQ dinner will be served. A special
exhibit at the George Bush Library will open on Saturday, November 16th with free
admission and an antique car show at the Library. More information is available on
the City of College Station website.
VI. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee Goals FY
2013. Marci Rodgers will update the goals and action taken to date on each goal and
present at the next meeting.
VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events
• Pat VanderBoom reported on the Program Sub-committee meeting (report
attached)
• Members from the Historic Preservation Committee and Senior Advisory
Committee met on Wednesday, September 25th at noon to discuss possible
speakers, topics and lunch sponsors for 2014. (Meeting Notes attached)
• Marci Rodgers gave an update on September programs and presented
programs that will be offered in October and encouraged members to attend
the Fall Dance on October 17th from 7-9pm at Southwood and Senior Fall Fest
planned for October 24th from 4-7 at Veteran’s Park. (report attached)
VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
• The next meeting is scheduled for October 28, 2014
