McGrail, Jerry Markowich, Robert Meyer, Pearl Robertson, Mabelene Robinson and Ron Silvia

I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:02 am by Frank Duchmasclo,
Chairman
II. Welcome and hear visitors Linda Harvell and Gary Ives with the Historic
Preservation Committee
III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on March 25, 2013 Ron Silvia made
the motion to approve the minutes. Jon Denton seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously
IV. Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning College Station 75th
Celebration with Linda Harvell and Gary Ives Linda Harvell, Chair of the Historic
Preservation Committee and the City’s 75th Anniversary Committee, shared plans for
the upcoming 75th celebration of College Station. Ms. Harvell explained plans for a
Homecoming/Reunion Event on Friday, November 15th at Southwood Community
Center. The committee is also working on an exhibit at the George Bush Library
opening Saturday, November 16th for three months. Ms. Harvell explained that they
are in need of help in planning the homecoming event. Gary Ives has offered to help
as a member of the Historic Preservation Committee. Anyone interested in helping
plan for the celebration or share items for the exhibit were encouraged to contact
Jacob Morris, Historic Records Coordinator, or Linda Harvell or Gary Ives. The 75th
planning committee meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at City
Hall in the Council Chambers starting at 8:30 am. The meetings are open to all
interested. Frank Duchmasclo thanked the visitors for coming to the meeting and
asked that the 75th celebration be placed on next month’s agenda.
V. Discussion, consideration and possible action concerning program sub-
committee report regarding upcoming programs and events Robert Meyer,
Mabelene Robinson, Joanna Yeager and Pat Vanderboom met on Monday, April 8th
at Southwood Community Center to discuss the May calendar. Highlights for May
include the Seniors Expo, Writing your Family History Workshop, AARP Driver
Safety Course and Computer Classes. Members of the sub-committee are considering
meeting prior to or after the monthly Advisory Committee meetings.
VI. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee Goals FY
2013. No action taken on goals
VII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (report attached)
Marci Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator reported on March attendance figures
and highlighted current month activities and upcoming events. The 12th Annual
Seniors Expo is planned for Wednesday, May 22nd from 9-3pm at the Brazos Center.
Volunteers are needed to help work the Parks and Recreation Department Senior
Services booth. Other opportunities include collecting surveys from vendors and
delivering lunch to the vendors.
Bob Meyer will help work the booth from 9-11
Frank Duchmasclo will work the booth from 11 -1
Margaret Carmichael will work the booth from 1-3
Jon Denton will help distribute meals to vendors from 11 -1
Pearl Robertson will collect surveys from 2-3
Susan McGrail will collect surveys from 2-3
VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
