Members Present: Jon Denton, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Susan McGrail, Jerry Markowich,
Ron Silvia and Pat VanderBoom
Members Absent: Margaret Carmichael and Pearl Robertson
Staff: JD Wood and Marci Rodgers
I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:04 am by Frank Duchmasclo,
Chairman
II. Welcome and hear visitors J.D. Wood, Lead Athletic Supervisor was introduced
III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on October 28, 2013 Jon Denton made
a motion to approve the minutes. Pat VanderBoom seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously
IV. Report, possible action and discussion on Senior Games, 2014 J.D. Wood gave an
update to the committee on the Senior Games and events offered scheduled for
February 20 – 23, 2014. Registration will begin January 13- February 7, 2014. A
reception is planned for Friday, February 21st at the newly opened Hilton Garden Inn.
Jon Denton was recognized as being very instrumental in the continuation of the
Senior Games in the Brazos Valley with the Parks and Recreation Department.
V. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee Goals FY
2013
• New Signage installation Marci Rodgers reported that the “way finding
signs” have arrived and are to be installed in the park soon. Frank
Duchmasclo asked that the committee be advised by email when the signs are
installed.
VI. Recommendations to Parks and Recreation Board for Chairman and Vice
Chairman for 2014. Ann Hays made the motion that Frank Duchmasclo serve as
Chairman for the committee. Ron Silvia seconded the motion. Pat VanderBoom
made the motion that Ann Hays serve as Vice-Chairman and Susan McGrail
seconded the motion. The motions passed unanimously. The recommendations will
be made to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the January meeting.
VII. Recognition and presentation of Service Awards to Senior Advisory Committee
members Frank Duchmasclo, Pearl Robertson, Jerry Markowich, Pat VanderBoom,
Susan McGrail, Ron Silvia and Ann Hays were recognized for their years of service
on the Senior Advisory Committee as their terms end this year. Each member was
awarded a plaque.
VIII. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding current and upcoming programs and events (report attached)
Marci Rodgers distributed the report for November with monthly senior attendance
figures at Southwood Community Center and Lincoln Center for the month of
October. Updates on November programs were presented and upcoming December
activities such as Holiday Open House, senior dance and Senior Pageant at Lincoln
Center were announced. The program sub-committee will meet on December 3rd at
10:00 am at Southwood. Members of the sub-committee include: Ann Hays, Pat
VanderBoom, Pearl Robertson, Joanna Yeager and Ron Silvia.
IX. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
• The committee will not meet in December and the next regular meeting will
be held on Monday, January 27, 2014. New members will be introduced.
