HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/15/2001 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD May 15, 2001 On the 15th day of May, 2001 the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members were present: 1. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, Secretary/Library. 3. President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. Ms. Shirley Watts, a retired English teacher, was introduced as the new Library Board member from College Station. 4. The minutes of March 20, 2001 were approved with a correction to the attendance record for Ms. Perry. • 5. Monthly statistics for March and April 2001 were discussed. 6. A. In old business, Mrs. Mounce stated that College Station City Manager Tom Brymer responded positively to the library's offer for cataloging, archiving and storage for College Station historical documents. B. Mrs. Mounce discussed the letter from the Library Board to the College Station Mayor regarding 2002 budget recommendations for Sunday hours for the College Station Library 7. In new business, Mrs. Mounce reported that cell phone usage in the libraries is annoying to other patrons. The Library Board supported a sign to be posted in the library asking cell phone calls to be handled outside the building. Small tent signs will be placed on computers and library tables. 8. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce stated that the salaries for entry librarians will be increased to $30,000. There are three vacancies at this time. A new program for handling Interlibrary Loan books has been launched. A courier service picks up and delivers ILL books in the states of Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma for a flat rate. Texas State Library funds about 60% of the cost of the courier service. In July, the Texas State Library will announce a program to offer extensive databases on the interne for authentic library card holders in Texas. Databases such as Infotrac Health Refrence, Gale Literature and Handbook of Texas are examples of the proposed offering. Mrs. Mounce stated she has been asked to serve on the TLA History Committee to observe the 100th anniversary in 2002. 9. The next meeting will be held at the Carnegie History Center on July 17, 2001. Library board members are invited to the Friends of the Library Book Sale on June 9, 10 a.m to 4 p.m. at the meeting room, Bryan Public Library. 10.
