HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/19/1999 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD January 19, 1999 On the 19th day of January 1999,the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station Public Library, 800 F.M. 2818, College Station, Texas, and the following members were present: 1. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library. 3. President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order. 4. The previous minutes for November 1998 were approved as distributed in the mailout. 5. Monthly statistics for November and December 1998 were discussed. Mrs. Mounce reported it is time to prepare the library's Annual Report. Statistics show fiscal year circulation as 439,000 which is a 10%increase. • 6. Business: A. Mr. Ringer welcomed Mrs. Jo Berg as a new library board appointment and Mrs. Mary Chauvin and Mr. Bill Lancaster as reappointments. B. Mrs. Mounce announced that the Bryan City Council had asked her to present an overview of history and direction of library services at the January 26, 1999 council meeting as suggested by the Carver Governance type of city government in order to establish ends or goals for city services. Mrs. Mounce created and published a 22-page document entitled Library Services, Rich Past, Bright Future for presentation to the council and viewed this invitation as an opportunity to provide information to the council which they do not know. Mrs. Mounce also asked four experts in library services to speak at the city council meeting on January 26th. They are Jeanette Larson, head of Library Development for the Texas State Library; Pat Tuohy, Coordinator for Central Texas Library System; Mark Smith, Head of Communications and editor of the Texas Library Journal for the Texas Library Association; and Larry Ringer, president of this Library Board and chairman of the College Station Library Task Force. Mrs. Mounce offered an opportunity for library board members to speak in open forum at the February 9, 1999 City Council meeting regarding library services. Mrs. Mounce reported that February 23rd is Legislative Day and several librarians hoped to visit Representative Steve Ogden at the State Capitol building. C. President Ringer read a resolution thanking the Brazos Valley Arts Council for its role in obtaining the outdoor sculpture for the College Station Library on January 12, 1999. The motion was made by Dave Moore; seconded by Bill Lancaster;the motion passed. 7. There were no requests for the March agenda. 8.
