HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/21/1998 - Regular Minutes - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD July 21, 1998 • On the 21st day of July 1998, the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following members were present: 1. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian; Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library; Mrs. Kathleen Dill, College Station Librarian. No visitors were present 3. Larry Ringer, President, called the meeting to order. 4. The previous minutes for May 1998 were approved. 5. Monthly statistics for May and June were discussed. Mrs. Mounce discussed a handout that showed that June 1998 had a circulation statistic of 50,141 for the combined libraries, the highest total monthly since June 1992. 6. New Business: A. Mr. Ringer informed the Library Board that the College Station City Council had requested that the board consider and make a recommendation regarding naming the College Station Library in recognition of the Fitches. After discussion, the Library Board agreed that the name should retain the designation, "Library", as recommended by the Library Task Force. Mr. Ringer will prepare a memorandum and notify the College Station City Council of the Board's recommendations. B. Mrs. Mounce stated that the Library system budget proposes the addition of a full-time clerk's position at the College Station Library. This addition would allow the College Station Library to open daily at 9 a.m rather than 10 a.m. The motion was made by Kathi Appelt to support the Community Librarian in this - proposal; seconded by Bill Barzak,the motion carried. Old Business: A. Mrs. Dill reported that the Summer Reading Club was a boom year with 1,186 children registered at the Bryan Library and 1,148 at the College Station Library. The Wednesday programs at Bryan and the Thursday programs College Station are setting attendance records. B. Mrs. Mounce reported that she visits the Carnegie Restoration site regularly and videotapes the progress. She commented that a lot of dirt had to be removed under the foundation to prepare the HVAC platform. Fundraising efforts will continue. 7. The meeting,on September 15 will be at the College Station Library. 8. Dave Moore mentioned the rededication of the Cushing Library on October 20th.
