MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
• OF THE BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
January 16, 1996
1. On the 16t day of January, 1996,the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas convened in a
regular session in the auditorium of the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street,Bryan, Texas,
and the following members were present: 1

Also present was Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian;Mrs. Nancy M. Ross, Senior Reference
Librarian;Mrs. Angela Alford, College Station Librarian;Mrs. Kathleen Dill, Youth
Services/Automation Librarian; and Mrs. Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library.
3. There were no visitors present.
411 4. The previous minutes for September and November 1995 were approved as corrected.
5. Monthly statistics for the months of September through December 1995 were discussed. 'N
A new organization chart for the library was distributed along with a roster of library board
members.
6. There were no committee reports.
7. In the librarians' reports, Mrs. Dill reported that the automation project is progressing. Over
147,000 records are in a database, ready for Dynix to accept once the contract has been
approved. In Youth Services, Mrs. Duncan is handling class visits and storytime.
Senior Reference Librarian Nan Ross stated that a priority is getting the law library books up-to-
date. Interlibrary Loan at Austin Public Library had changed since closing due to asbestos
abatement that started in July, 1995 and expected to last through April, 1996. The future of ILL
is doubtful due to decreased LSCA funds. Ms. Alford, Branch Librarian, said business is good.
Mrs. Mounce stated that the District Attorney's office had briefed her in her part of the
arsonist's trial scheduled to begin in Marlin on January 22. Glynnis McDaniel is the prosecuting
attorney; Clara Mounce as City Librarian is the victim. Mrs. Mounce's testimony will be
critical in the punishment stage of the trial, if the defendant is found guilty. Mrs. Mounce was
honored at the Bryan High School Banquet in January along with 23 citizens for leadership in the
community.
8. In unfinished business, Mrs. Mounce reported architecture firms for the Carnegie Library
Restoration project had been interviewed. A selection would be made soon .
A time-line for completion would hopefully be under 2 years with an opening date of December
IP 14, 1997 to coincide with the first opening of the Carnegie on December 14, 1903 and the
opening of the present library on December 14, 1969.
2. College Station Library project architects are negotiating this week on costs. The site for the
Ilibrary is the corner of Welsh Ave. and FM 2818. Mr. Davenport asked if the two libraries
ti would remain under one system. Current plans are to remain a system. Estimated opening
• the library would be year-end 1997.
3. The contract for the automation project for the Bryan Library System is in negotiations
between attorneys for Dynix and the City of Bryan; After,the contract is agreed, it will go
before the City Council for approval, probably in March, 1996. A time-line for progression
of implementing the project will be made after approval.
9. In new business,two new Library Board members were introduced; Mr. Oscar Davenport, of
Brazos County Juvenile Probation Services and Elaine Vance, active volunteer of Friends of the
Library and former Library Board member.
10. There were no request for items for the agenda.
11. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
