On the 15 of Oct. 1986 the Library Board of the City of Bryan,, Texas, convened in regular session in the regular place in the Reading Area of the Librarj_ Building,_ at 5:05 p.m. the following members present: 2. Nilliams, Associate City Librarian ; and Mrs. Laura Mills, secretary. • 3. There were no visitors at the meeting. 4. The minutes were approved as. corrected. 5. The monthly report of statistics for August and September showed the normal: variation for this time of the year . 6. The nominating committee recommended Vic Paulos for Vice President to serve for a term of one year . A motion was made and carried 7. in the librarian 's report, Mrs. Hounce reported on her attendance at Texas Municipal League annual meeting. She stated that our city was well represented by the City !Manager and others. The City Librarian served as president of the Texas Municipal Library Director 's Association for the past year; new officers were elected at the meeting. The function of the Library Board was also discussed qt the meeting. The Library Board serves as a diffuser of ideas and represented the library in social and business public; relations. The Friends of the Library annual book sale netted over $6,500. The sale was more efficient and effective than ever before and received good publicity. Some of the proceeds may ® be used to provide a revolving carousel for the SIRS series in the reference section , purchase of a copier that enlarges and reduces, and a copier for the branch library. An answering phone device for when the library is closed is another consideration . Page 1 • The City Librarian mentioned an incident where a young child wedged its head under the plexiglass on the stairwell . Modification may have to be made for safety and insurance reasons. S. A. Mrs. 1/ounce reported on the progress of the branch library . The shelves are being installed; the furniture will arrive in early Januaryso the opening is predicted after the first of the year . The City Librarian asked for the board 's acceptance or rdjection of a sesquicentennial flag donated by the Brazos County Sesquicentennial Committee. The Board rejected the gift since the year is almost over; also, it was observed that the flags in the area are faded. 9,A. Jeri Nilliams stated that the literacy program gained momentum in Project Plus. This was a nationwide campaign for publicity for literacy programs. The Service League is funding a part—time coordinator for the Adult Literacy Council and 40 tutors have been trained in, a recent workshop. 10. There were no requests for items for- the agenda.
