On the 19 of March, 1986, the Library Board of the City . of Bryan, Texas, convened in regular session in the regular place in the Reading- Area of the Library Building, at 5 p.m. with the following members present: :rATTENDANCE Member Present # of meetings a` of meetings Absent held since attended since appointment appointment Ed Madeley, Pres, 26 26 Mrs. N.B. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs. • Jerilynr: A . Nill. iams, ' Associate City Librarian; and Mrs. Laura Mills, secretary. 3. There were no visitors. 4. The minutes were approved. 5. The monthly report of statistics for January and February were presented. 6 , There were no committee reports . However, Mr . !Madeley stated that two board members would be up for reappointment and one member 's term would be expiring . He asked that if board members had a recommendation for the appointment to contact Mrs. Mounce in the next two creeks,. 7 . In the librarian 's report, Mrs . Mounce stated that the Friends of the Library will be purchasing a large misplay case for the children 's department . She also commented that the public access computer literacy program was going strong and 94 hours of computer time had been logged from Feb, 10 to date . Bathroom modifications for handicapped accessability have been completed except for one door that had to be ordered to match the existing partitions . Signs indicating the facilities are for the handicapped are on order and will be installed soon . Regarding collection development, Mrs . Mounce reported that a large science fair book order had been placed in order to prepare for next year . The children 's department is adding more to the Texas Collection as books in this area have been scarce in the past. The Brazos County history book will be unveiled or, April. 9 by Representative Richard ,=Smith. .0...p,t J. Mrs. Mounce reported that six librarians will be attending the annual meeting of the Texas. Library Association . • The Friends of the Library Annual Meeting will be held April 17 at 7 p.m. in the library auditorium. She encouraged board members to attend since there will be no board meeting in April . The Central Texas Library System will be purchasing for the library a hard disk drive computer with bottom feed printer that will be placed in the cataloging department. Catalog cards can then be created on the computer , Mrs . Maurice expressed frustration at the problems with the heating and cooling system in the library . in the past two months, the pop—off valve of the boiler released steam in the basement, a 10 h.p. motor on one of the air handlers went out and a compressor also malfunctioned, B . Mrs . Maurice reported that progress is being made on the Branch Library . A meeting ' was held March 17 when the contract was discussed which gives the City Librarian final authority regarding hiring staff and ordering materials for the branch library. The City of College, Station is currently looking for a site for the library. 9 .A . A Summary of the Annual Report showed a sizeable increase in all areas except only a .017increase in staff. 411 9 .B . Mrs . Mounce demonstrated the Kurzweil Reading Machine to the Board members . She hope to advertise the machine in the future and train at least one blind person to use it. 9 .C . Mr . Madeley brought up discussion of changing the meeting time to 5:15 . it was decided to make no change, but members were encouraged to be on time. 10 .
