• OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
AUGUST 8, 1979
The Bryan Library Board of Trustees met in regular session on August 8, 1979 in the
Reference Room.
Present were Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, President, Mrs. C. J. Allen, Mrs. Jesse Flores,
Mrs. Bookman Peters, and Mrs. Willie Pruitt.
Absent were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , and Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III.
Under regular business, the minutes of the July meeting were approved as written.
The statistics and several book titles were examined. An increase in circulation
of 4000 items was attributed to paperback circulation.
A discussion concerning the local oral history program followed. The Board
suggested a newspaper ad be placed to stimulate interest in this idea, and to find
capable people to serve as interviewers. The local high school principals and TAMU
• history professors will be contacted about involvement in this program.
The librarian suggested the monthly meeting date be moved to the third Wednesday
of the month. This change will give Finance and the library staff ample time to provide
the necessary figures for the statistical reports. All members present agreed with
this change, and the next meeting will be September 19, 1979.
The librarian announced that the library has received the history book collection
of Dr. Milton Nance. Those books will be shelved together in the Law Library for
reference use.
Mrs. T. T. Walton has been added to our group of capable volunteers.
Briefly, the idea of a 10 year celebration for the library was discussed. The
open house would take place in December to coincide with the December 14, 1969 opening
date of the library. Several ideas were mentioned; an international theme with
decorations from around the world, singing by local groups, etc. This will be discussed

in more detail at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.

On the 8th of August, 1979, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas convened
in regular session in the regular meeting place in the Reference Room located in
the Library Building at 5 p.m. with the following members present.
