411 OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD
JANUARY 17, 1979
The Bryan Library Board of Trustees met in regular session on January 17, 1979
in the Reference Room of the Library.
Present were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , Mrs. R. H. Harrison, III, Mrs. C. J. Allen,
Mrs. Bookman Peters, Mrs. Willie Pruitt, and Mrs. Jesse Flores.
Absent was Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen.
Under regular business, the minutes of the December meeting were approved as
written. Mrs. Harrison moved acceptance of the booklist and Mrs. Allen seconded it.
Under old business, the librarian reported to the Board the results of the visit
on January 2, 1979 to Blinn College, by Hubert Nelson, Acting City Manager and Joe
Hanover, City Councilman.
At this date, Blinn College decided not to provide any funds to the Bryan Public
Library to alleviate the overwhelming student load here in this facility. The President,
Dr. Atkinson, announced plans to staff and open a study hall facility in the Kraft
Building.
The Library Board is interested in pursuing this matter and has requested the
librarian to have this matter on the agenda of the next Bryan City Council meeting.
Mr. Bryan will also arrange for a meeting with Representative Bill Presnal and
Senator William Moore and the Library Board to discuss this situation.
After much discussion, Mr. Bryan moved that the library limit the number of books,
which Blinn College students could check out to three. Mrs. Allen seconded this and
the motion carried.
Copies of the collection agent's contract were distributed and discussed.
Under new business, the revised adult registration cards were examined. The Board
0 suggested that the library staff place a "BC" on Blinn College student library cards.
Mrs. Peters discussed the need for more publicity about the library to appear
in the local press. The Board examined various ways to achieve this recognition.
411 Copies of the new Friends of the Library Board were distributed.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
