M. in the Library. Present were Dr. Paul Crawford, Mrs. John McIntyre, Mr. W. D. Dunn, Judge W. T. McDonald, Dr. T. T. Walton, Jr., and Mr. R. L. Peurifoy. Mr. Fred Sandlin, the City Manager3and Mrs. Hazel Richardson, the Librarian, were present. Dr. Walton's quote: "A room without books is a body-without soul." Cicero. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. In an examination of the ,statistics it was noted that since we had moved into the new building there had been a 60% increase in- adult non-fiction. This was considered a significant category to watch in noting the great increase in circulation since the move. Since Mr. Sandlin had to .leave early, matters with which he would be concerned 411 were taken up first. On the stairway problem he reported that the City Commission had approved $350 for the purchase of another rail like the one on the stair, to be placed across the center of the metal posts. He said that bids would be received at the next Commission meeting for the installation of the sound system in the auditorium.. _ The Librarian reported complaints from library patrons because of no parking in-the library parking areas, due to the places being taken and kept all day by employees of the downtown business firms and by library employees. Mr. Sandlin said it would be possible to mark those areas around the library, "For library patrons only." The police department has offered to cooperate in seeing that the library parking places be kept for library patrons. A space would be pro- vided for the head librarian. Since the Board had decided since its -January meeting to consider the purchase of a concert piano for the auditorium, instead of an institutional one, 1 ILIBRARY ACCOUNT 113 FEBRUARY 1970 ACCOUNT NAME BUDGET EXPEND UNEXPE D ADMINISTRATIVE 8,064.00 5,360.00 2,704.00 SKILLED LABOR 37,260.00 24,805.14 12,454.86 LABOR OPERATIONS 22,537.00 13,168.59 9,368.41.
