In old business, David Gerling reports that the approval of the architect is not on this week's agenda for CS City Council, but should be on the one of the next two agendas. Thirty one architects submitted and the committee recommended BRW based in Conroe and College Station. Construction may r start possibly in the spring of 2011 with completion in spring 2012. Mr. Gerling will provide information at a later date about meetings with the architect to receive input from Library staff, the Friends, Library Board and other interested citizens. Fund raising efforts by the Friends could begin, but some questions need to be addressed as to where and how the fund would be handled between the City and Friends non-profit. 7. There was no new business. 8. Librarians report: See attached report from Dr. Koeninger. Parking around the Mounce Public Library was discussed. Director Cisneros and members of the Parks and Recreation Department recognized that the play equipment was aging and did not meet current safety standards. I spoke with Director Cisneros and Mr. David Schmidt about our park. After that Mr. Pete Vanecek, Park Planner, met in Windwood Park with neighbors to look at the site and discuss the possibilities for and placement of possible new equipment. Surveys were passed out to each home to prioritize what residents wanted to have in the park, and the results were given to Mr. Vanecek. Mr. Vanecek later came as a speaker to our neighborhood meeting with a park design, so he could get further input. Even though budget constraints limited the final choices, we are very pleased with the park. The bid went to Wade Contractors, Inc., and I got to speak with Aaron Marshall as he supervised the work. We had asked that trees be saved as much as possible, so that the playground would continue to be shaded. Everyone worked to fulfill that request. Two smaller dead trees were removed by your Park staff for safety. After the construction fences were down and the paint was dry, neighbors came to the park to celebrate on April 17th. Of course, families actually started enjoying the park as soon as the fences were down. Picnics and birthday parties have been held there already. I see children and parents there every day enjoying the new swings, playing on the slides, and whirling around on the equipment. I must admit I enjoy swinging on the swings too! A park is critical to keeping a neighborhood young and vibrant. Young families are happy to move here, because you have provided such a good park. Thank you for your vote to approve the funding for the park. Come and visit Windwood Park! Sincerely, 71/ ' fl Sherry Ellison cc: Members of the College Station City Council Director Tony Cisneros of the Parks and Recreation Department Job_East District! "Hi Paul, We want to thank you and your wonderful crew for all that you did to help make our Kick-Off a great success! They took care of the fire ants. They brought the 6 shade tents and set up every one of them for us. They brought garbage cans and set them up. They brought safety vests for our volunteers, folding tables, electrical cords, a water hose as well as something to 'scoop the poop'. One member of your crew even helped us take down the Kennel Club's shade tent. And, if that wasn't already enough, they came back in the afternoon and took down all the tents and loaded everything up that they brought in the morning. We really appreciated the way that they were willing to work with us, and how quickly you responded to our requests. It was a very positive experience. We had over 3200 in attendance for our Kick-Off." Thank you again, Debbie and Peggy Debbie Callaway and Peggy Noynaert Youth Services Librarians Larry 3. Ringer Library Cub Scout Pack 62 "Dear Mr. Gerling, This is Stu Allison, Co-CubMaster for Pack 62 Cub Scouts. And, this is brief and sincere letter of appreciation, which I hope will be passed on to two individuals on your staff. Your Instruction Supervisor, Mrs. Jenny Hartsfield, Division of Parks and Recreation (div. 82) was Most Helpful recently, when our Cub Pack was planning an end of year pool party and picnic. Our Pack needed, on short notice, a WSI who could speak to our Cubs bout `Water Safety'. Jenny was most gracious, and amenable to our request. Not only did she have a 'candidate' in mind, she suggested Matt Hernandez - a former Eagle Scout. 1I ow' What a match. Jenny arranged to Matt to contact me, and we were 'off and running'. Matt is omfort ble presenter, and understood the Cubs; he managed to get all his points across - necessary for some of these boys to collect credit toward advancement - and to prepare them for an upcoming pool party at Adamson Lagoon. Despite the limited attention span of his audience, Matt had brought some Excellent visuals, and the Cubs interacted with him and these aids Very Well. So, this is Hearty Scout Thank You and Job Well Done. To Jenny for her able assistance in cooperating with me, and for providing a perfect match for a Water Safety speaker. And, to Matt, for his amiable manner and age appropriate presentation on Summer r Swim in Safety. By the way, the weekend after the Monday night talk by Matt, all the Cub Scouts and their families DID enjoy a fun afternoon at your pool facility. Thanks, even, to those staff who were present when the first cars arrived with the boxes of food; they 'turned to' voluntarily' and got us unloaded in minutes. The afternoon was a total success; we look forward to replicating similar Cub family activities at your facilities again this Fall and next Spring. Most Sincerely, Stu Allison "Dear Mr. Gerling, This is Stu Allison, Co-CubMaster for Pack 62 Cub Scouts, And, this is brief, but sincere letter of appreciation, which I hope will be passed on to one of your staff. Your Aquatics Supervisor, Ms.. Vora V w ll, Division of Parks and Recreation (Div. 82) was Most Helpful recently, when our Cub Pack was planningan end of year pool party and picnic. Very simply, Vera made the process easy, helping us select a date and time slot which matched your season opening activity, and accommodated our needs perfectly* And, when weather seemed as if it might threaten to cause a cancellation, she stayed in touch with me, right up until an hour before our 3-6 M time period, monitoring the impending storm; AND, much to our delight she gave us good news, so we could let our Cub families know we are a "Go". The afternoon was a total success; we look forward to duplicating our Cub family activities with your facilities again this Fall and next Spring.
