HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/18/2009 - Regular Minutes - Senior Advisory Committee College Station Senior Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Monday, May 18, 2009 College Station Teen Center 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. 10:00am MINUTES Members Present: Joyce Davis, Laura Holmes, Clifford Linsey, Jean Roberts, Dorthea Robinson, Ron Silvia, Yvonne Stevens and Joanna Yeager Members Absent: E.E. Burns, Anne Hazen, Dorothy Hernandez, Jack Hernandez Neal Nutall and Colleen Risinger Staff Present: Marci Rodgers, Senior Services Coordinator I. Call to order The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Ron Silvia, Chairman IL Hear Visitors No visitors present III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on April 27, 2009 Clifford Linsey made the motion to approve the minutes. Jean Roberts seconded the motion. The motion passed. IV. Discussion, consideration and possible action on Senior Advisory Committee officers attending Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting regularly. Clifford Linsey made the motion that members of the Senior Advisory Committee including at least one officer attend the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meetings. Joyce Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed. V. Discussion, consideration and possible action on recommendations to Parks and Recreation Advisory Board regarding appointment of Chairman and Vice- Chairman. Laura Holmes made the motion to have Ron Silvia serve as Chairman and Joanna Yeager serve as vice-chairman. Joyce Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed. Chairman, Ron Silvia abstained. VI. Discussion, consideration and possible action on Senior Services Coordinator report regarding upcoming programs and events. (report attached) Senior Expo will be held on Wednesday, May 20that the Brazos Center from 9:00 a.m- 3:00 p.m. Booth workers include: Joyce Davis 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, Jean Roberts, 12:00 -1:30 pm and Ron Silvia from 1:30—3:00 p.m. VII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. • Appointment of a representative from the Senior Advisory Committee to attend City Council meetings when agenda items include items of interest to the committee. VIII. Next meeting: Monday,June 29, 2009 IX. Adjourn Laura Holmes made the motion to adjourn. Clifford Linsey seconded the motion. Thank you to Jean Roberts for helping with guest check- in (120 attended) • Brazos Valley Senior Games 408 registered to participate. • Planning Committee for Alzheimer's Memory Walk met this month. Walk will be held on November 71h at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater. • Terrace Pines- CS Police and Fire departments met with residents and offered safety program. • Senior Dance held on Thursday, Mayl 4th at the College Station Conference Center • Lincoln Center Activities-Senior of the month: Carolyn Hines. Hat Show and Luncheon, Senior's Day Out with lunch at Applebees, nutrition education with AgriLife Extension Agency and scrapbooking every Tuesday. • May 25th Memorial Day Holiday June 2009 Ur Computer Club—June 3 • 42 dominoes offered every Thursday • Friday Bridge Group meets lst and 3rd Friday • Exploring History Lunch Lecture, June 17th with Alson Thorns speaking on Native American Food Ways • Brazos Bomber game June 24th and 25th at 7:00 p.m.
