Director of Parks and Recreation , SUBJECT: PARKS BOARD MEETING JULY 1411992 BOARD CONCERNS L Andrea Derrig relayed a concern regarding the Boys and Girls Club at the Lincoln Center. The Boys and Girls Club of College Station had relayed to her that the children were not going to the Lincoln Center's Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos Valley. but coming to their program. Andrea asked why we utilized the Brazos Valley Club instead of the College Station Club. David Gerling explained that the Brazos Valley Club was a part of a national organization and had resources available to them for various programs. The College Station club is small with limited funds. He also explained to Andrea that the College Station had been asked previously to join the Brazos Valley Club and they had turned them down. Andrea also questioned if a child was not a member of the Brazos Valley Club if the child could still use the Lincoln Center. Staff promised to look into this matter. 2. Andrea expressed safety concerns about the floating figures in Adamson Pool. She felt they should be tethered as soon as possible as to avoid accidents close to the sides of the pool. 3. Mike Winner expressed his dissatisfaction with the policy of adults having priority over children in the lap lanes (Adamson). He didn't agree with this especially if the child is swimming laps and not playing. 4. George Dresser asked if there was to be on-street parking when the Krenek Tap Street Improvements were completed. Staff indicated that they did not think so. He expressed his concern about the lack of parking at Central Park and suggested the staff look into the problem before the improvements are completed. (Pete is looking into this) 5. George Dresser expressed his confusion about-tow the budget process works. He said that when a new program is brought up like the Urban Tree Plan or the Urban Fishing Program, he wants to understand how these programs get funded. Whether money can just be asked for or if another program has to be cut to get the new program. Ric suggested that at a later meeting, the staff could possibly have a presentation on how the budget process works. We provide good things in life!
