by Edwards & Kelcey (design firm) regarding cemetery design issues
for the new municipal cemetery: Edwards and Kelcey gave a presentation
describing three different building schemes, concept images, and site plans.
Discussion followed with the audience giving feedback and asking questions.
Dick Birdwell - 3 Forest Dr. College Station, TX
Dick Birdwell commented that he thought that there should be a separate
section for family plots for those families who want a lot of spaces. He also
said that there should be some type of uniformity to the type of headstones for
the Aggie Field of Honor. Mr. Birdwell said that paying for the sell of options
should be getting started, he thought that it should have been started already.
Mayor Ron Silvia - College Station, TX
Ron Silvia commented that parking wasn’t addressed in the conversation or
plans and he thinks that parking is a very important factor for visitors to the
cemetery.
Jodie Hoyak - 2511 Rustling Oaks, Bryan, TX 77802
Jodie Hoyak commented that the location of the committal shelter is a huge
factor in the design as far as circulation through the cemetery. Also the
elevation of the buildings needs to be looked at because elderly people need to
be able to have easy access to the buildings.
Dave Fahlquist - 835 Tanglewood, Bryan, TX
Dave Fahlquist commented on the drainage in the cemetery. When will the
drainage be put in? Topography of the land? How will that work with the
gravesites, etc.
Ken Robison - P.O. Box 39, Wheelock, TX 77882
Ken Robison commented that he and a lot of his friends have a strong desire
for some of the spaces in the Aggie Field of Honor. Some of his friends do not
have a home base and would like to come back to College Station to be buried
in the Aggie Field of Honor. He thinks that the Aggie Field of Honor needs to
be by itself and have a strong impact. Mr. Robison also asked what they meant
by a class wall in the Aggie Field of Honor section and if you could see a clear
view of the Kyle Field from the cemetery after putting in framing structures at
the southeast corner of the land. He also agreed that the buildings needed to
be easily accessible so that elderly people will not have any trouble accessing
them.
Clint Bertrand - 2338 Harvey Mitchell Parkway S., College Station, TX
Clint Bertrand asked about the policies and procedures of the cemetery,
what criteria was set for the Aggie Field of Honor, and asked who could be
buried in the Aggie Field of Honor section.
Guy King - College Station, TX
Guy King commented that the Aggie Field of Honor has driven this cemetery.
He felt that when someone enters the cemetery that the Aggie Field of Honor
needs to be clearly visible.
