AN ORDINANCE CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION; SETTING THE DATE AND HOUR
OF SAID ELECTION; APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGE AND CLERK.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of College Station,
Brazos County, Texas, calling for a special election of the employees
of the City of College Station who are members of the Texas Municipal
Retirement System to determine if the retirement benefits allowable to
employees by reason of membership in such system shall be reduced from
the present rate of 5% of earnings to 3% of earnings on future employ—
ment;
mployment; setting the date of said election and appointing an election judge
and a clerk to assist said judge; setting the hours of said election from
7:00 A. M. to 7:00 P. M. in the City Hall, City of College Station, Texas.
Section I. That the Mayor order an election to be held on the 28th
day of September 1956, between the hours of 7:00 A. M. and 7:00 P. M. in
the City Hall on the question of whether the rate of deposits with the
Texas Municipal Retirement System on account of future employment shall
be reduced from the present rate of 5% of earnjngs to 3% of earnings,
Section II. That the following ballot be used in such election:
For the proposal to reduce current service deposits to the Texas
Municipal Retirement System from 5% of earnings to 3% of earnings, it
being understood that retirement benefits payable by such system will
consequently be reduced.
Against the proposal to reduce current service deposits to the
Texas Municipal Retirement System from 5% of earnings to 3% of earnings,

Section III. That the election shall be by secret ballot and that
each person who is an employee of the City and is a member of the Texas
Municipal Retirement System shall be given notice in not more than 30
nor less than 10 days preceeding such election, and that the City Manager
be required to give copies of notice to each said employee and to post
notice of said election on the bulletin board and that the City Manager
furnish to the presiding judge of the election a list of city employees
4 who are eligible to vote.

Q- Section IV. That each voter shall be identified as a qualified
voter and he shall be given a ballot and that the certified list of voters
00 shall show along side of his name that he is voting in the election; that
each voter shall be afforded a place to mark his ballot in privacy, and
CL' that he shall indicate his choice by striking out the language on the
ballot which is in opposition to his desire; that each voter shall write
his name on the perforated stub attached to the ballot and he shall de—
tach the stub and deposit it in the sealed stub box and deposit his ballot
in the unsealed ballot box.

Section V. That the Mayor shall appoint a judge of the election
who shall be a qualified voter resident of the City of College Station,
but not an employee or officer of the City, and also appoint a clerk to
assist the presiding judge who shall also be a qualified voter resident
of the City of College Station; that said presiding judge shall not allow
any person to vote who is not on the certified list, but any person may
protest any decision of the presiding judge by reducing said protest to
writing signed by the judge and the protestant.
Section VI. That Mrs. P. R. Brison is appointed presiding judge
of said special election and Mrs. Ernest Langford is appointed as clerk
to assist said judge.
SIGNED AND APPROVED by the Mayor and attested by the City Secretary
