Mr. Haas presented for the consideration of the Council the question
of constructing a public swimming pool on the grounds of the A&M Consolidated
School. It was the unanimous opinion of the Council that the city is not
in a position to participate fiancially in such a program.
The request of Dr. L. G. Jones for a replatting of Block 5 of Breezy
Heights Addition was returned to him for further study.
The recommendation of the Planning Commission that the alley lying
between Lots 7-14 and 15-22, Block 9, West Park Addition, was disapproved
unanimously on motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Seeger.
It was the expressed wish of the Council that these minutes reflect no
dissatisfaction with the recommendation of the Planning Commission, but
rather that this action be accepted as being in keeping with previous action
on similar requests wherein the Council chose to respect the wishes of
property owners who objected to closing of alleys or streets.
On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, all
voting aye, Ordinance No. 230, an ordinance closing and vacating an alley
was adopted.
In response to a letter from Nayor H. C. Dishman of Bryan, the Mayor
appointed Councilman Orr and Pugh to constitute a committee in conformity
with Paragraph 6 of the Contract between the City of Bryan and College
Station.
On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, all voting
aye, City Manager Boswell and Councilman Sorrels were authorized to attend
the national meeting of the Municipal Finance Officers Association in
Washington June 3-8, expenses of each to be paid by the city.
