Introduction for Pastor Samuel Hill
Roan’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
Roan’s Chapel Road off of HWY 30 in SE Brazos County
Named after Rev. Ben Roan who in 1881 invited his fellow community members into his home for worship and prayer.
As the congregation grew a simple church structure was built that then was replaced by a formal structure in 1914. It was sited on 2 acres of land that the Deacons purchased from Amon
Williams.
In 1953 a fire destroyed the church and the existing church today was built. They do however have the bell from their original bell tower. It is restored and displayed in front of
the church as a reminder of congregations legacy.
Pastor Hill came to Roan’s Chapel in 1994. Originally, from Wichita, Kansas. Pastor Hill has been a resident in the Bryan/College Station Community for 20 years.
Pastory Hills family, to whom he holds dear, is his wife Djuana and their two daughters, Anorea and Deja.
- Anorea is working on her M.S. in Architecture at TAMU and
- Deja is set to start her Masters in Public Administration at UT. - Djuana has taught in Bryan School District since their arrival
twenty years ago.
Pastor Hill received his B.S and M.S. in Biology from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.
He then went on to receive a M.S. from Texas A&M University in Genetics. Working for 15 years as an Instructor in the Biochemistry/Biophysics Dept he followed his heart to pursue his
ministry at Roan’s Chapel on a full-time basis, having served as Pastor at RC for 6 years and serving as a Youth Minister for 7 years.
Just a note on the book from which Pastor Hill will be addressing today,
The Word on the Brazos: Preacher Tales from the Brazos Bottoms, was recommended to me by Pastor Jason Fikes of A&M Church of Christ.
Rebecca Hankins Curator of African-American Collections of TAMU Cushing Library helped us get access to the book.
