of College Station are a 2009 AASLH Award Winner NASHVILLE, TN—July 15, 2009—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that Anne Boykin and the City
of College Station are the recipients of an Award of Merit from the AASLH Leadership in History Awards for Project HOLD and Heritage Programs. Project HOLD, at http://HOLD.cstx.gov,
is an historic online library database used to archive the history of College Station and the Brazos Valley. Project HOLD has previously received two Awards of Excellence in Preserving
History from the Texas Historic Commission in 2005 and 2007. The City of College Station Heritage Programs include the Historic Preservation Committee, Exploring History Lunch Lecture
Series, Historic Marker Program, and Oral History Program. “This is our first national award and one that truly recognizes the dedication and perseverance of our city and community in
preserving our local history,” said Boykin, who grew up in College Station. Five years ago, Boykin returned to College Station and soon began volunteering for Project HOLD. After a few
months a position opened up, Boykin was hired, and the rest is College Station history. Since then, she has taken Project HOLD to a new level of preservation. Boykin also serves on the
Brazos County Historical Commission, the Brazos Valley Veterans
Memorial Board and the Museum of the American G.I. Board. The Heritage Programs office is in the College Station Conference Center at 1300 George Bush Drive in College Station, Texas.
Heritage Programs is in the Department of Parks and Recreation. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 64th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the
preservation and interpretation of state and local history. Awards for 2009 represent 59 organizations and individuals from across the United States. Award winners will be honored at
a special banquet during the 2009 AASLH Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, August 29. A generous contribution from The History Channel will once again help underwrite
the cost of the awards banquet. The AASLH awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation
of state and local history throughout the United States. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards not only honor significant achievement in the field of state and local history, but also
brings public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions, and programs to make contributions in this arena. For more information about the Leadership
in History Awards, contact AASLH at 615-320-3203, or go to www.aaslh.org. The American Association for State and Local History is a not-for-profit professional organization of individuals
and institutions working to preserve and promote history. From its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, AASLH provides leadership, service, and support for its members who preserve
and interpret state and local history in order to make the past more meaningful in American society. AASLH publishes books,
