HomeMy WebLinkAboutStaff Report DESIGN REVIEW BOARD WOLF PEN CREEK DESIGN DISTRICT STAFF REPORT Project Manager: Jennifer Prochazka, Planner Report Date: January 6, 2006 E-mail: jprochazka@cstx.gov Meeting Date: January 13, 2006 For WOLF PEN CREEK AMPITHEATER (DRB) — DESIGN DISTRICT REVIEW Location: Colgate Drive Applicant: Ric Ploeger, Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation Department Item Summary: The proposal is an expansion to the Wolf Pen Amphitheater that includes offices, a permanent concession area and a Green Room. This item is for review of materials, colors, and elevations only. The site plan, landscape plan, and other design elements on site will be submitted for review by the Design Review Board at a later date. The Unified Development Ordinance provides the following information related to elevations, colors, and materials to aid the Design Review Board's Decision: Elevations: • The height and scale of each building shall be compatible with its site and existing (or anticipated) adjoining buildings. • Harmony in texture, lines, and masses is required. Monotony shall be avoided. • Architectural style is not restricted. Evaluation of the appearance of a project shall be based on the quality of its design and relationship to surroundings. • Buildings shall have good scale and be in harmonious conformance with permanent neighboring development. • Building components, such as windows, doors, eaves, and parapets, shall have good proportions and relationships to one another. • Monotony of design in single or multiple building projects shall be avoided. Variation of detail and form shall be used to provide visual interest. Colors: • Colors shall be harmonious and shall use only compatible accents. Materials: • Materials shall be selected for harmony of the building with adjoining buildings. • Materials shall be selected for suitability to the type of buildings and the design in which they are used. Buildings shall use the same materials, or those that are architecturally harmonious, for all building walls and other exterior building components wholly or partly visible from public ways. • Materials shall be of durable quality.
