The additional traffic which this large number of houses would generate would certainly create a safety issue for Glade (already too-much traveled) and Laura. The number of cars parked at nighttime in the streets in this neighborhood are already a problem, and with increased activity from more people and more cars, it would be a worse problem. We understand that the street leading from the proposed development would mean another cut into Southwest Parkway not at the light, but west of the light. Another traffic and safety concern. The concentrated number of residents in such a small area would certainly not be consistent with the existing neighborhood. We feel certain that no one in the neighborhood is against developing the property, but must ask, "Why can't the homes that are put there be on lots the same size as the already existing homes?" We will appreciate your forwarding this message to the appropriate people on P&Z. Sincerely, Ayres &Jo Ann Cermin 1500 Laura Lane >>> "Larry Peck" <peck@mail.chem.tamu.edu> 2/25/2005 9:40:31 AM >>> Dear Planning and Zoning Committee Members; It has come to our attention that yet again someone is seeking to put as many as 15 houses on a small property in the middle of an established neighborhood. Once again we would like to voice our objections. That many houses in such a small area would greatly diminish the integrity and esthetics of our neighborhood. It is very likely that houses of a size that would accommodate 15 houses on that small property would be targeted at the student market. When we purchased our home new in 1974, we bought it because it was in a neighborhood of single family homes near an elementary school and the high school. All of the homes were of a similar size with comparable lot sizes. Over the past few years, many of the homes which have been sold and re-sold have been purchased by students or by people who lease them to students. Parking vehicles on the street, noise, and trash have become persistent problems. The property at issue is very near South Knoll Elementary School. The traffic at Southwest Parkway/Glade and at Southwest Parkway/Southwood Drive is already heavy. Based upon the number of cars we see parked at the student-occupied homes on the 1800-2000 blocks of Southwood Drive alone, the potential traffic hazard to the students going to and from South Knoll alone should make this request untenable. We question whether the 30+ year-old sewer and water pipes in the area would accommodate an additional 15 homes. We respectfully ask that you deny any request for replatting or variances that would allow more than 3 or 4 single family homes to be built on that property. Please do the right thing --the same thing you would want for your own neighborhood. Sincerely, Sandra and Larry Peck 1812 Southwood Drive College Station, TX 77840 Yahoo!
