Development Coordinator Jessica Jimmerson, Staff Planner Tammy Macik, Secretary SUBJECT: Wells Fargo Cyber Bank • request for approval of branch to be located inside the existing Texas Aggie Bookstore a t 321 Un1 verslty Drive 1n Northga te. (00-204) The NRS Review Subcommittee held a meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 2000 to review the above-mentioned item. Staff Planner Jimmerson opened the discussion by stating that the applicant wants to modify the existing storefront by restoring it to its original color and they want to paint the existing canopy and install signage. Jessica showed a few slides of what the property looks like now and pointed out the bench, pay phone, trash can and planters that are in front of the store. Jessica stated that Wells Fargo wants to paint the canopy the Wells Fargo yellow. Jessica asked the NRS members for direction on the colors and placement of new door and three signs (above the existing awning, pedestrian ~oriented sign above the door and window square) . NRS Member Anz agreed with the improvements that Wells Fargo is proposing but she questioned the removable of the pay phone that is currently there. (By eliminating that phone, there will not be a phone near for people in need of a phone.) NRS Member Anz also questioned as to where the nearest blue phone was. The blue phone is a 911 only phone used in case of emergencies. Jessica mentioned that the nearest one was probably in the back but she wasn't sure. Commissioner Warren asked the Wells Fargo representatives why the phone must be removed. Mr. Stellmach stated that removing the phone would be part of the process to clean up that area for a better -looking streetscape. Commissioner Warren asked about the bench and stated how important it is to have a bench there. Mr. Stellmach said they are planning to keep the bench with two planters - one on each side of the bench. NRS Member Anz asked if the sandblasted brick would it be the same color scheme. Mr. Home of Texas A&M University NKBMeetirg Project: Wells Fargo Bank Date November 17, 2000 Page Z oft Stellmach said that he talked to the architect Jim Holster and the Texas Aggies Bookstore owner and they both agreed it would be of the same color from previous projects done in that area. NRB Member Abbott brought up the colors of the sign. Mr. Holster clarified that the colors were red, yellow, gold and black and the lettering would be 6 to 8 inches tall. Mr. Stellmach said that they are planning to paint the canopy black. Mr. Holster said the mortar was still good from when Holster worked on it at Freebirds about 8 years ago. NRB Member Anz asked about the conduit being shown and suggested screening it by putting in an elbow pipe. Mr. Stellmach stated the plastic signs are 30 inches by 18 inches and are illuminated. NRB Member Abbott brought up the guidelines that states that illuminated signs are strongly discouraged. Mr. Peters said that the non -illuminating sign under the canopy shouldn't be a problem, but they felt that the one on the top of the building would get lost with all the other signs up there. Commissioner Harris moved for the approval of the project as submitted. Commissioner Williams seconded it and it passed (5-0). Mr. Peters said they would go back and reevaluate the signs.
