SUBJECT: A&M Methodist Church Education Building/Fellowship Hall-
Discussion and consideration for an education building to be
located at 200 College Main (03-41),
The PRC held a meeting on Thursday, March 6, 2003 to review the above-
mentioned project. Staff Planner Flanery stated that the proposal is a two-story
building around 35,000 square feet in area. This type of use associated with a
church does not have a parking requirement in other zoning districts. Staff
Planner Flanery stated that staff is recommending approval with Staff Comments
No. 1, with exception of comment #3 (irrigation requirement) which is optional for
the applicant and comment #8 because the applicant will be applying for a PIP.
Commissioner Hall moved for approval with the removal of comment # 3
(irrigation requirement) and that the applicant will apply for a PIP for comment
#8. Commissioner Williams seconded it and the motion passed 2-0.

Re: Proposed A&M Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and Education Bldg.,
417 University Drive
Dear Committee:
I wanted to clarify several items regarding the above project's submittal of material
before your committee.
1. It is our understanding that dark bronze for street furnishings is the standard for the
Northgate District. We are proposing that our street furniture be black in lieu of dark
bronze. This is because our existing and proposed"wrought-iron" style fence is
black, which makes it look more like authentic wrought iron. Our Church is Gothic
and has a tradition of black wrought iron and having these elements black will make
them more compatible with our Gothic style.
2. The site along Patricia only has room for a sidewalk, no planting, between the curb
and building wall/fence. Our landscape elements along this street are the new
"Aggie maroon"brick pattern stamped concrete walk and the decorative "wrought
iron" fence and a decorative brick archway and gate. I hope this will satisfy the
landscape requirements for this streetside. It is a very narrow street and is used more
as a service alley than any of the other streets. Any planting would probable be
abused here anyway.
3. The mechanical units are located on the building elevations and called out as such;
however, they are in reality located back from the parapets such that the sight lines
would not allow for view of our equipment. We have included 3-d views to help
illustrate this.
4. There are two roof options, depending on final pricing. The slate style composition
shingles would match the existing church buildings, which will remain. The metal
roof is the type of roof the Church would like to change to ultimately. We have
included both for your review.
Thank-you for your consideration of these matters.
Sincerely, / //
