We started something like this last year but only gave out bikes and clothing to 2 formerly homeless families in
BCS area. I ex panded it this year and made it more bike/health oriented with the ride this time. I hope to
continue this program yearly from now on in this manner.

I welcome any and all help from volunteers. I'm not sure exactly how big this event will be this year but
certainly would like to encourage any and all to participate (adults and children).
The basic premise of this is for us to give away 20 bicycles to needy children in the BCS area. We are in the
process of identifying those children now and are also about to start gathering donations for the purchase of the
bikes and the program in general. We would then give away these bikes to the children on Dec. 16th between
4pm and 6pm at CSPD .
Those 20 kids would then be VIP guest at our community bike ride on Jan. 14th at 10am at Bee Creek Park. We

plan to have some bike displays from our unit set up and at least one CSPD patrol unit set up for kids to see.
We would then break the kids into appropriate age groups to do a short ride with the kids and are opening it up
to anyone else in the community that wants to come ride on that date a lso.
I have attached a flyer for the entire event and also a registration form for parents to register their kids for the
r ide . We are giving away shirts to VIP's and at least 10 volunteers that help and then we are selling shirts to
the general public on the day of the event.
Let me know if you would be able to help or if you have any ways to make our program better from your
standpoint.
Thanks,
MK

Hi Michael ,
I would be very interested in partnering and checking to see if the Board would like to help/be involved. Let me
know what you think.
The Board is meeting on December 5th and I can mention it to them then if you'd like to send me details or you
can come to the meeting if you'd like. We can also help get the word out about the event.

Mike,
I looked into what would need to be submitted for the Christmas Bike Ride that PD is putting on and we would
need to process a Parade Permit, see attached. The fee is waived since its a City sponsored event and the
application should include the route and what streets are proposed to be closed.
I mentioned the event to Vanessa Garza, Staff Liaison for the Bicycle, Pedestrian & Greenways Advisory Board. I

thought this would an event the Board might be interested being involved with. Just wanted to throw it out
there in case you're looking for participation from other City Departments.
Let me know if you have any questions about the application.
