Ach ieving and maintaining up-Io- date data is also essential for the efficacy of the new TRAKiT software . The Planning and Development Services Department currently has one full time GIS Technicia n to maintain over 25 layers for use by the department but also city wide . These layers make up the foundation for our gis maps and decisions that are made about our City by interna l and external users . This division is also relied upon to provide maps and data for this department but other city departments as well to do their jobs . The department previously had two full time pos itions to keep up with the consumption of the data need ed, but the second position was elimintated in FY12 when it was necessary for departments to reduce budgets. Box 9960 I 1101 Texas Ave College Station, TX 77842 To whom it may concern, I would like to submit m y resume for the GIS Technician position that is currently available. I found out about this opportunity through the Texas A&M Geography Society and [ believe I would be a good candidate for the position. I am knowledgeable about GIS and, being a student, I would not only continue to learn on the job, but also, I would be learning and gaining valuable skills in my studies . Throughout my academic career I have taken multiple GTS courses. These courses have given me the skills I need to be successful in this position. I have excelled in these courses and received A's in all of them by maintaining a high level of proficiency in GIS software, particularly, ArcGIS. In these courses I have learned how to generate maps using data from multiple sources and different databases using ArcMap . In my ePortfolio you can see many of the maps I made in my courses using both ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro . In the process of making these maps I have learned how to both create and modify shapefiles, layers, and geodatabases within ArcGIS software. I have also performed data conversions and projections in these courses . I believe that my success in these courses can be attributed to my passion for GIS . Tts ability to take multiple sets of complex spatial data and transform it into information that is easy to understand and visualize is what I believe makes GIS so valuable. I believe that my standing as a student studying GIS gives me a unique platform to excel in this position. That is because I will be actively expanding my knowledge on GIS outside of work in addition to learning in the position . I am very excited by this opportunity and I look forward to hearing back . I can be reached via email at BrandonLeaver@ gmail.com or by phone at 415-996-9867. Thank you for your consideration . The tool featured three different parameters; the input map, the name of the layer which was being modified, and the name of the output map Used ArcMap to perform a site suitability selection process for a potential retail establishment in College Station, TX. Developed and used spatial and non-spatial (attribute-based) selection parameters to generate intermediate data layers for model input. Simulated and evaluated potential retail site locations. Optimized layer and feature symbolization, created and included appropriate cartographic elements, and produced PNG output maps. Used ArcMap to analyze and compare two different snow cover datasets to each other using raster data in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado around the Rio Grande National Forest. Used map algebra to create a map which showed the snow cover in the region and to visualize the different snow cover in each dataset. Created a shaded relief map to visualize topography in the region. Used ArcMap to create prof Pssional-quality map products/exhibits including necessary and relevant cartographic elements (title, legend, scale bar, north arrow, etc.). Utilized dynamic labeling approaches, various ArcGJS Pro views, and cartographic techniques to build an appealing and informative visual hierarchy. The tool featured three different parameters; the input map, the name of the layer which was being modified, and the name of the output map Used ArcMap to perform a site suitability selection p rocess for a potential retail establishment in College Station, TX. Developed and ~sed spatial and non-spatial (attribute-based) selection parameters to generate intermediate data layers for model input. Used ArcMap to create professional-quality ~a p p roducts /exhibits including necessary and relevant cartographic elements (title, legend, scale bar, north arrow, etc.). Utilized dynamic labeling approaches, various ArcGIS Pro views, and cartographic techniques to build an appealing and informative visual hierarchy. Box 9960 I 1101 Texas Ave College Station, TX 77842 To whom it may concern , I would like to submit my resume for the GIS Technician position that is currently available. I found out about this opportunity through the Texas A&M Geography Society and l believe r would be a good candidate for the position. I am knowledgeable about GIS and, being a student, I would not only continue to learn on the job, but also, I would be learning and gaining valuable skills in my studies . Throughout my academic career I have taken multiple GJS courses. These courses have given me the skills I need to be successful in this position. I have excelled in these courses and received A 's in all of them by maintaining a high level of proficiency in GIS software, particularly, ArcGIS. In these courses I have learned how to generate maps using data from multiple sources and different databases using ArcMap . In_..my ePortfo lfo you can see many of the maps I made in my courses using both ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro. In the process of making these maps T have learned how to both create and modify shapefiles, layers, and geodatabases within ArcGJS software. I have also performed data conversions and projections in these courses. I believe that my success in these courses can be attributed to my passion for GIS. Its ability to take multiple sets of complex spatial data and transform it into information that is easy to understand and visualize is what I believe makes GIS so valuable. I believe that my standing as a student studying GIS gives me a unique platform to excel in this position. That is because I will be actively expanding my knowledge on GIS outside of work in addition to learning in the position.lam very excited by this opportunity and I look forward to hearing back. I can be reached via email at BrandonLeaver@ gmail.com or by phone at 415-996-9867 . Thank you for your consideration .
