Gibbs, P .E. Development Engineer City of College Station Planning & Development Services 1101 Texas Avenue College Station, Texas 77842 RE: C&J's BARBEQUE, 4304 Harvey Road, College Station, TX Utility Letter (REVISED) RME No. 188-0252 Dear Alan: The following information demonstrates a sufficient capacity from the existing utilities for both water and sanitary sewer requirements for the above referenced development. Domestic & Fire Water: A new fire hydrant will be installed on an existing 8" water line. Both are located at the west property line which is the common RO.W. line with State Highway No. 30 (Harvey Road). This hydrant will provide fire coverage to C&J's BARBEQUE which consists of a 5,372 sg .ft . restaurant. Construction materials and methods, for this building, will be classified as Type VA Per Appendix B & C of the 2000 International Fire Code, a fire flow of 1,500 gpm fro m one fi re hydrant is required. At the request of this office, CoCS PUD performed a flow test on an existing fire hydrant (static hydrant G-017 and flow hydrant G-019) on Jun ~5, 2005 . The flow test yielded a residual pressure of72 psi at a residual flow of 1,300 gpm.LJhis free flowrate was acquired from th 2W' nozzle. Fire flow will be drawn from the 4" nozzle of the fire hydrant . By employing Bernoulli's equation of Q=AV, assuming that the velocity remains relatively nstfill then the fire flowrate should increase proportionately to the cross-section area "A". T e 2W' ozzle area is equal to 4.91 in2 while the 4" nozzle's area is equal to 12.56 in2 (x2.56). ee flow rate of !.,328 gpm is approximated ~ Therefore, it is determined that this hydrant and the water distribution system will adequately provide the required flow without falling below the TCEQ minimum fire flow pressure of20 psi. CD l-188-0252-L04 Page-1 " C&J's BARBEQUE Utility Letter -REVISED Rabon Metcalf Engineering July 25, 2005 Domestic usages, as calculated using Method 1 "Fixture Count Determination" of the B/CS Unified Design Guidelines, are projected to be at a peak demand of 30 gpm. This peak water demand, for domestic use, should only be slightly higher that current peak demands from the existing restaurant facility . Sanitary Sewer: Using the calculated peak domestic water, a sanitary sewer flow of 28,800 GPD is estimated. This peak daily flow equates to approximately 0 .07 cfs. The sewer from this development will be discharged into an existing 6" sanitary sewer line which is located along the west property line . This existing sewer line is estimated to have a conveyance capacity of 0.20 cfs (at minimum grade). As with the domestic water, the experienced sanitary sewer flows should only be slightly higher than current existing peak flows. Please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions. The site currently is improved with an existing metal building with asphalt and gravel paving and drive areas . Using the Rational Method and the following parameters , an increase in runoff of appro ximately 1.44 cfs during the 100-year rainfall event would be experienced. Ration Method: Q = CIA CEXIST = 0.69 CNEw = 0.80 (see Exhibit X-1 for coefficient determinations) I = 11.63 in/hr Tc = 10 min. A = 1.13 acres This runoff is a negligible amount and therefore should not create any adverse impacts to downstream drainage structures and/or facilities .
