Testing and Final Submittals . The pump manufacturer shall perform the following inspection and tests on each pump before shipment from the factory . 1. I mpeller, motor rating and electrical connections s hall first be checked for compliance with the customer's purchase order. 2. A motor and cable insulation test for moisture content or insulation defects. 3 . Prior to s u bmergence, the pump sha ll be run dry to establish correct rotation and mechanical integrity . 4 . The pump shall be run for thirty (30) minutes submerged. a minimum of six (6) feet under water. 5 . After Operational Test No. 4 , th e insulation test (No. 2) is to be performed again . The pumps shall be vertical, non-clogged raw sewage centrifugal type for operation in a submerged condition . Each unit shall be equipped with a sub mersib le electric mot or, comp letely shop a sse mbled in the pump manufacturer's plant, accurately aligned and properly prepared for s hipment. 8 . Pump T y p e. The pumps shall be cap able of handling raw, unscreened sewage. The disch arge connection elbow shall be permanently installed in the wet well along with the discharge piping. Anch or bo lts for the discharge connection elbow shall by Type 304 stainless steel. The pump s sha ll be automatically connected to the discharge connection elbow when lowered int o place and shall be easily removed for in s pection or se rvice. There s hall be no need for personnel to enter wet well to eith e r disconnect or reconnect the pump. Sealing of the pumping unit sha ll b e guided to and pre ssed ti g htly against the discharge connec tion elb ow. No portion of the pump shall bear directl y on the floor of the wet well. The pump, with it s appurtenances a nd cables , shall be capable of continuous submergence under water without lo ss of watertight inte g r ity to a depth of 65 feet. C. Lift Sys tem. A lift system s hall be supplied comprised of a "grip eye" for attachment to liftin g equipment hook and sho rt len gth of chain attached to pump and stainless steel wire rope long enou gh to reach the station top . The lower seal unit shall contain one ( 1) stationary and one (l) po s iti ve ly dri ve n rotating tu ngste n-carbide ring. Th e upper seal shall contain one (I) stationery tun gsten-carbide ring and one (l) positively driven carbon rin g . The sea ls shall be insta lled in the TANDEM configuration . The seal systems sha ll not rely upon the pumped m edia for lubri cation. G. Oil C hamber. Each pump shall be pro vided with an oil chamber for the shaft sealing sys tem . The drain and inspection plug , with positive anti-leak seal , shall b e easi ly accessible from the outs ide. H. Impeller -The pump impellers shall be one-piece cast iron, full y -encased , design with wide passages to prevent clogging w hen pump ing solids, trash , rags and string material entrained in sewage. The impeller shall be statically and d ynamic a ll y b a lanced . The impeller hub shall be accurately fitted and mechanically sec ured to the impeller shaft. Impeller and casing shall be designed to p ass the minimum 2-1/2 -in ch diameter test sphere. A wear rin g system shall be used to provide efficient sealing between the volute and suction inlet of th e impeller. Each pump shall be equipped with a brass , or itrile rubber coated steel rin g insert that is dri ve fitted to th e volute in let. Or semi-open , multi-vane, b ack-swept , non-clog des ign. The impelle r va ne lead ing edges shall be mechanica lly self-cleaned upon each rotatio n as they pass across a spiral groove located on the volute suction which shall keep them clear of debris, maintaining an unobstructed le ading edge . The impeller(s) vanes shall have screw-shaped lead ing edges that are hardened to RC 45 and shall be capable of ha ndlin g solids, fibrous materials , heavy sl ud ge and other matter found in was te water. Volute -The pump volute shall be sin g le -piece grey cas t iron. Class 358 , non- concentric design with smooth pass ages large enough to pa s s any solids that may enter the impeller. Minimum inlet and di s charge size shall be a s specified . Volute for semi-open design shall have an integral spiral shaped cas t groove at the suction of the volute. The internal volute bottom or in s ert rin g shall provide effective sea ling between th e pump volute and the multi-vane , semi-open impeller. The sharp spi ral g roove shall prov ide the shearing ed g e acro ss which eac h impell e r va ne le a d ing edg e sh a ll cros s during its ro tation in o rd e r to rema in un o b strn c ted . The clearanc e be t ween th e in te rnal volute bo ttom and th e impe lle r leadin g edg e s sh a ll be adjustable. J. Cooling Sys tem. Each unit shall be provided with an adequately designed cooling system. Thermal sensors shall be used to monitor stator temperatures. The stator shall be equipped with three (3) thermal switches , embedded in the end coils of the stator winding [one (1) switch in each stator phase]. These shall be used in conjunction with and supplemental to , external motor overload protection and wired to the control panel. K. Electrical Cable Seal. The cable entry shall be comprised of a single cylindrical elastomer, grommet, flanked by washers. The cable entry junction chamber and motor shall be separated by a stator lead sealing gland or terminal board . Epoxies , silicones, or other secondary sealing system shall not be considered acceptable. L. Motor -Pump motor shall be of NEMA Design B, squirrel-cage , induction , shell- type design, housed in an air-filled watertight chamber. The stator winding and stator leads shall be insulated with moi s ture resistant Class H in s ulation which will resist a temperature of 356°F. The stator shall be in s ulated by the trickle impregnation method using Class H monomer-free polyester resin resulting in a winding fill factor of at least 95 %. The stator shall be heat-shrink fitted into the cast iron stator housing. The use of multiple step dip and bake-type stator insulation process is not acceptable. The use of bolts , pin s or other fastening devices requiring penetration of the stator housing is not accepta ble . The motor and the pump shall be produced by the same manufacturer. The combined service factor (combined effect of voltage, frequency and specific gravity) shall be a minimum of 1.15 The motor shall be designed for continuous duty, capable of sustaining a minimum of 15 evenly spaced starts per hour. The rotor bars and short circuit rings shall be made of cast aluminum. Connection between the cable conductors and stator le ads shall be made with threaded compressed type binding posts permane ntly affixed to a terminal board and thus, perfectly leak proof. The pump motor cables in stalled shall be suitable for submersible pump application with cable sizing conforming to ICEA-N EC specifications for submersible pump motors . Manufacturers requirin g moisture detecti on device s fo r warranty shall supply a lock-out d evice with man ua l reset in the control pa nel. M. Exposed Surfaces . All exposed nuts and bolts shall b e of stainless stee l, Type 304 or 316 . All surfaces coming into contact with sewage, other th an stainless steel, shall be protected with a sewage re s istant coating . Di sc harge Elbow . The discharge base elbow shall be furnished by the pump manufacturer. The disch arge elbow shall have a foot for anchoring to the wet well floor and a means for firmly supporting the guide rails. The design and mass of the discharge elbow shall be sufficient for rigidly supporting the eccentric load of the pump unit and di sc harge piping. The discharge elbow inlet flange face shall be perpendicular and make a metal to metal contact with the pump discharge nozzle flange face. Sealing of the disch arge interface by means of a diaphragm , o-ring or other de vice is not acceptable . The discharge elbow outlet shall connect to the discharge pipin g riser. The elbow shall hav e ANSI , I 25-pound flange dimensions and drilling . 0. Pump Guides. The pumps shall be capable of being lowered into position in the pump chamber and automatically connected to the discharge connection elbow by the use of sliding bracket and pos itioning devices. The sliding bracket shall be part of the pump assembly. The sliding bracket and positioning device shall be constmcted of cast iron or 304 stainless steel. The upper guide rail bracket and the guide rails shall be construc ted of stainless steel , sized as shown on the drawings. Inte rmediate guide rail brackets shall be constructed of 304 stainless steel and be positibned a maximum of twenty (20) feet apart . P. Mix-Flush Valve. At least one (1) pump in each sump shall be equipped with an automatically operating valve that will provide a mixing action within the sump at the start-up of the pumping cycle . The turbulent action caused by the flow shall also provide some sump aeration benefits. The va lve s hall be mounted on the pump volute so that it can be removed from the sump along with the pump during normal and routine mainte nance checks and shall be positioned on the volute to provide for non-c logging opera tion. The va lve sh a ll be equipped with an adjustab le , wear-resistant discharge nozzle which shall be used to direct flow from the valve to optimize mixing action within th e sump . The val v e shall not require an y external power source or c o ntrol to operate. neither electric nor pneumatic. The use of any external power source is not accepta ble. The va l ve shall be sui table for u se in Class I , Divisio n l hazard ous locations . The valve shall open at th e beginning of each pumping cycle and shall automatic ally close during pump operation after a pre-se lected time of operation. The valve shall operate automatically by differential pressure across the valve and shall be actuated throu gh a self-contained hydraulic system which u ses an environmentally safe fluid . A method of adjusting the valve operating time shall be provided. Q. Access Frame and Cover. Furni s h aluminum access frames and covers for top of valve pit and wet well. The cover and frame shall be constructed of 1/4-inch structura l grade aluminum and utilize stainless steel hinges and stainless steel hardware . Covers to be equipped with padlock hasp and hold open arm and sized per the requirements of the drawings . The covers shall be rated for 150 pounds per square foot li ve load . PART 3 EXECUTION 3 .0 I ERECTION/INSTALLATIO N / APPLICATION AND/OR CO STRUCTION A factory trained service engineer employed by the pump m a nufacturer s hall advise the Contractor in th e insta llation and start-up of the pumping unit s. The pump manufacturer's service technici an shall include in his bid one (I) work.in g day to advise the Owner's operator of operation and maintenance of the pumping unit s and controls. PART 2 PROD UCTS 2 .01 MATERIALS AND/OR EQUIPMENT A. Control Panel -Floa t Type 1. Design . Pump manu factur er's duplex float control and alarm system designed to function with pumping units , factory wire and tested . Controls to automatically s tart and stop pumping units and permit manual operation at the pane l. The control panel is to be UL listed , manufactured in a UL approved facility . The control panel shall be wired for a single point connection for the electrical contractor. 2 . Sequencing . The control function provides for the operation of the lead pump under normal conditions. If the incoming flow exceeds the pumping capacity of the lead pump, the lag pump will automatically start to handle this increased flow. A s the flow decreases, pumps will be cut off at elevations as determined on the drawings . Lead pump will be alternated after each cycle. In the event of a high level condition, an alarm light will be excited to indicate an alarm condition. Should the pump OFF regulator fail, the system will operate with a differential between the lea d pump ON and the lag pump ON levels. Motor Circuit Breaker. A thermal magnetic molded case heavy-duty type circuit breaker shall be supplied as branch circuit protection for each pump motor. The circuit breaker must have a minimum ampere interrupting c a pacity of 14 ,000 symmetrical RMS amps . C. Motor Starters . Motor st a rters shall be standa rd NEMA size, FVNR with a three (3) line bimetal ambient compensated o verload relay and heater element. The motor starter shall have a horsepower rating not less than the rated motor horsepower. D . Control Transformers. A 4801120 (not required with a 240 v olt system) volt control transformer shall be provided with sufficient capacity to power the motor starter's holding coils, run lights , elapsed time meters and level controls . A 120 volt/24 volt transformer shall be provided to power le v el floats and twenty-four (24) volt relays. Motor running indicator li g ht s shall ha ve green lens and level indic a tor li g h ts shall ha ve amber lens . LED's will not be acceptable . H. Space Heater. One ( 1) 120 V AC , fifty (50) wa tt space heater shall be installed in the bottom of the motor controller. Th e heater shall have a ru st resis ting iron s heath and slots in each mounting tab to accommodate secondary insulation bushing for mountin g . A thermostat ic control shall be installed in the top of the motor c ontroller for controlling the space h eate r temperature. The thermostat shall ha v e an adjustable operating range of thirty-fi ve (35) deg rees F to ninety (90) degree s F and shall also have SPST ; snap-acting conta cts rat ed twenty-five (25) amps at 120 V AC. 1. Phase Monitor. A phase monitor sh a ll b e provided to protect against, single phasing , under voltage and phase reversal. The monitor shall ha ve an adjustable operating range and a respon se time of two (2) seconds. The contact arrangement shall be DPDT with a minimum contact rating of three (3) amps at 600 VAC resistive. J. Lead/Lag Pump Alternator. The level control circuit shall include a duplex pump alternator. The alternators shall be th e solid-state plug-in type with a five (5) amp; 120 volt output rating and pump sequence indicator lamps . A three (3) phase, three (3) poles , 0-900 volt lightning arrestor shall be connected to each phase of the incoming service .
